Job Summary
Duties & Responsibilities
Typical Duties
- Inspects, and assists in the evaluation of, new and existing sanitary and storm sewer systems, including storm-water retention ponds.
- Ensures work activities are performed in accordance with approved standards, specifications and activity guidelines, including Corporate safety policies and regulations.
- Operates and maintains CCTV pole camera equipment in a safe and professional manner.
- Assists with the development and monitoring of a detailed annual work plan.
- Maintains comprehensive records of inspection activities performed and ensures forms are completed accurately.
- Reviews and analyses inspection activities and makes recommendations for improvement.
- Responds to customer service requests, enquiries and complaints, as required including spills. Investigates sewer system problems and initiates, or communicates need for, corrective action.
- Assists with flushing and cable brushing programs.
- Assists with training in the use and maintenance of sewer bypass equipment and confined-space entry procedures.
- Assists with the supervision of crews, as required.
- Installs, operates, and assists with the maintenance of, pumps, plugs and other miscellaneous equipment.
- Participates in on-going training, including operator certification training as directed.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education, Training and Experience Requirements:
- Secondary (high) school diploma or equivalency certificate.
- Five years’ experience including
- Three years of experience related to water and sewer systems
AND - Two years of experience repairing, inspecting and cleaning sewer collection systems.
- Possession of Level 2 Wastewater Collection Operator Certification from the Saskatchewan Operator Certification Board.
- Possession of Level 2 Water Distribution Operator Certification from the Saskatchewan Operator Certification Board would be an asset.
- Obtain Level 3 Wastewater Collection Operator Certification Exams from the Saskatchewan Operator Certification Board Must be obtained within 12 months of original hire into the position.
- Possession of a valid Saskatchewan Class 5 Driver’s Licence.
- Current driver’s abstract demonstrating a safe driving record.
- Must comply with all safety related requirements.
Knowledge, Abilities and Skills
- Knowledge of both sanitary and storm sewer system standards, methods, materials, techniques and equipment including lift stations.
- Knowledge of related Corporate safety policies and regulations, bylaws, standards and specifications.
- Knowledge of related engineering terminology and techniques.
- Knowledge of water, sewer, electrical, gas, telephone and cable television subsurface installations.
- Ability to operate technical monitoring devices used in confined space entry procedures.
- Ability to compile data in a comprehensive manner.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public, contractors and civic employees.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
- Skill in the care and use of office and field equipment, including hand-held data collectors and a computer.
- Ability to perform confined entries complete with necessary fall protection equipment and air quality monitoring equipment.
- Physical ability to perform the assigned duties.
Weekly Hours: 40
Salary Range: $29.10 to $31.43 CAD per hour (2023 rates)
