Job Summary
Duties & Responsibilities
- Performs the duties of a Powerline Technician, including electrical services, overhead and underground power and street light systems.
- Provides service to new customers, e.g. installing new services and disconnecting and reconnecting service to existing customers.
- Responds to customer trouble calls and power interruptions and rectifies problems.
- Provides initial on-site assessment and response during major system problems. Reports problems to supervisory staff on duty. Takes corrective measures in repairing, clearing, switching and providing assistance to other responding staff.
- Supervises the work of the Patrolman/Service Truck.
- Completes trouble call reports daily.
- Maintains a record of time and materials spent on each job.
- Patrols, maintains and repairs street light circuits.
- Completes street light maintenance and lamp replacement reports.
- Performs load and voltage checks on system and customer services.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Knowledge, Abilities And Skills
- Thorough knowledge of overhead and underground distribution systems and the ability to learn new system developments.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Ability to climb poles and towers.
- Ability to exercise good sound judgement in handling systems trouble and customer service calls.
- Ability to deal courteously and tactfully with the public.
- Physical ability to perform the assigned duties outside under varying weather conditions.
Education, Training And Experience Requirements
- Grade 12 education.
- Possession of a valid Saskatchewan Journeyman Power Lineman Certificate.
- Two years' experience as a Journeyman Powerline Technician.
- Possession of, or ability to successfully complete within 6 months after date of hire, a valid Saskatchewan Class 1A Driver’s Licence.
- Current driver’s abstract from SGI demonstrating a safe driving record.
Weekly Hours: 48
Salary Range: $50.31 CAD per hour (2023 rates)
