Job Summary

Duties & Responsibilities

• Performs the duties of a Powerline Technician, including electrical services, overhead and underground power and street light systems.
• Provides service to new customers, e.g. installing new services and disconnecting and reconnecting service to existing customers.
• Responds to customer trouble calls and power interruptions and rectifies problems.
• Provides initial on-site assessment and response during major system problems. Reports problems to supervisory staff on duty. Takes corrective measures in repairing, clearing, switching and providing assistance to other responding staff.
• Supervises the work of the Patrolman/Service Truck.
• Completes trouble call reports daily.
• Maintains a record of time and materials spent on each job.
• Patrols, maintains and repairs street light circuits.
• Completes street light maintenance and lamp replacement reports.
• Performs load and voltage checks on system and customer services.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Abilities And Skills

• Thorough knowledge of overhead and underground distribution systems and the ability to learn new system developments.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Ability to climb poles and towers.
• Ability to exercise good sound judgement in handling systems trouble and customer service calls.
• Ability to deal courteously and tactfully with the public.
• Physical ability to perform the assigned duties outside under varying weather conditions.
  
  

Education, Training And Experience Requirements

• Grade 12 education.
• Possession of a valid Saskatchewan Journeyman Power Lineman Certificate.
• Two years' experience as a Journeyman Powerline Technician.
• Possession of, or ability to successfully complete within 6 months after date of hire, a valid Saskatchewan Class 1A Driver’s Licence.
• Current driver’s abstract from SGI demonstrating a safe driving record.
