Job Summary

This position performs professional engineering work to assist senior engineers with providing project management and administration for all capital projects and for process and environmental studies relating to water and wastewater treatment and remote facilities operation and to the management of solids handling and disposal systems.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Conducts long-range studies for expansion and asset management needs of the water and wastewater treatment and remote facilities operations and of the solids handling and disposal systems, including concept design and costs estimation.
  • Assists with preparing the five year capital budget, including revising cost estimates and the equipment replacement list.
  • Prepares technical Terms of Reference for capital projects, including preliminary documents, drawings and calculations required to define the type and size of new facilities.
  • Assists with the evaluation of electrical, mechanical, process and construction drawings and specifications as prepared by consultants. 
  • Participates in the tendering process for capital projects, including preparing front-end documents and acting as a liaison between consultants, contractors and the purchasing section of the Department.
  • Acts as a liaison between consultants, contractors and operations staff for capital projects during construction, start-up, commissioning and warranty work. 
  • Conducts process and operating problem studies and environmental investigations, including preparing reports and making recommendations.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Degree in electrical, civil or mechanical engineering.
  • Four to six years' experience in design and construction in the water and wastewater field.
  • Possession of, or eligibility for, membership as a professional engineer in the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Saskatchewan.
  • Knowledge of the theoretical aspects of water and wastewater treatment.
  • Ability to analyze, evaluate and prepare a wide variety of reports, plans and specifications.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Skill in the operation of a computer with the current version of Microsoft Office, Microsoft Project and AutoCAD 2009 software. 

Weekly Hours: 36.67 

Salary Range: $86,211.84 to $101,175.60 CAD per annum (2023 rates)
