Job Summary

Under the supervision of the Operations Superintendent, this position supervises and co-ordinates the work of the power electricians, apprentices and helpers engaged in the construction, testing, repair, alteration and maintenance of new and existing facilities.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Supervises and coordinates the work of the Power Electricians, Apprentices and Helpers. Assists with assigning and scheduling the work of Section staff.
  • Performs on-site inspections of work being carried out to ensure adherence to proper procedures, safety standards, construction standards, Safe Work Procedures and other specifications.
  • Assists with the programming of projects, development of work methods, coordination with other utilities, developers, contractors, inspectors and other on-site staff.
  • Provides the engineering design staff with recommendations, as required.
  • Assists with switching operations, as required on the system.
  • Assists with staff training and development.
  • Assists with the apprentice training program and safety training program.
  • Maintains records of time spent on each job. Ensures that all material allocated to each job is recorded completely and accurately.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education, Training and Experience Requirements

  • Grade 12 education.
  • Possession of an unrestricted Saskatchewan Journeyman Electrician Certificate.
  • Five years' experience as a Journeyman Power Electrician in an electric utility.
  • Possession of, or ability to successfully complete within 6 months after date of hire, a valid Saskatchewan Class 1A Driver’s Licence.
  • Current driver’s abstract from SGI demonstrating a safe driving record.

 

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills

  • Thorough knowledge of substations, transmission and distribution systems.
  • Thorough knowledge of electrical equipment and electrical test equipment.
  • Ability to learn new system developments.
  • Ability to supervise, train and develop staff.
  • Ability to make efficient use of staff and equipment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Ability to deal courteously and effectively with the public.
  • Physical ability to perform the assigned duties.
  • Skill in the operation of a computer with software such as Microsoft Outlook.

Weekly Hours: 37.33 

Salary Range: $50.78 CAD per hour (2023 rates)
