Job Summary

Under the supervision of the Laboratory Services Coordinator, this position prepares data summaries and performs laboratory activities as required by the laboratory’s quality management system.

Duties & Responsibilities

1.    Performs analyses of drinking water throughout all stages of the treatment process and distribution.
2.    Prepares laboratory solutions such as reagents, media, and standards.
3.    Performs special tests including investigations related to drinking water quality enquiries, complaints, and surveys.
4.    Responds to questions from the public regarding drinking water quality.
5.    Prepares summaries of data for reports, including laboratory non-conformity reports.
6.    Performs field tests and sampling throughout the distribution system, at remote sites, and from environmental locations.
7.    Prepares materials and equipment for analyses and performs routine maintenance on laboratory equipment.
8.    Monitors supplies for quantity and suitability, orders and receives supplies following established procurement policies.
9.    Performs general housekeeping within the laboratory to ensure that work areas, glassware and equipment are maintained in clean and functional condition.
10.  Assists with directing temporary laboratory staff, as required.
11.  Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Graduation from a recognized two-year, post-secondary program in Water Resources Engineering Technology, Chemical Technology or Biological Sciences Technology
        OR
    Be a constituent member of the Canadian Council of Technicians and Technologists in the bioscience, chemical or water resources engineering technology field.
  • One year's recent related work experience in an accredited laboratory.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid, recognized first aid certificate.
  • Possession of a valid Saskatchewan Class 5 Driver's Licence.
  • Current driver’s abstract from SGI demonstrating a safe driving record.


KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS:

  • Knowledge of water quality tests such as pH, turbidity, titrations, fluoride, and bacteriological analyses including tests for Coliform and HPC bacteria.
  • Knowledge of sampling and sub-sampling methodologies to collect surface water, effluent water, treated water, and process water.
  • Knowledge of laboratory accreditation and ability to follow operating laboratory procedures to maintain ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation.
  • Knowledge of Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) is an asset.
  • Ability to carry out duties with minimal supervision. Completes work on time, efficiently, and consistent with established standards.
  • Ability to provide guidance and direction to temporary laboratory staff.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Physical ability to perform the assigned duties.
  • Skill in the operation of a computer to summarize data.

Requires Security Check

Acceptable current Criminal Record Check (CRC) upon offer of employment.

Additional Requirements

HOURS OF WORK:
4-day work week.
Shift work, weekend work statutory holiday work are involved.

Weekly Hours: 38.75 

Salary Range: $70,130.88 to $72,113.88 CAD per annum (2023 rates)
