Job Summary

Under supervision of the Supervisor VI (Sewer Operations), this position operates a Sewer Cleaner Truck, Harben Truck, and Hydro-Excavation Truck to conduct required sewer maintenance and soft-digging operations.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Operates hydro-excavation equipment, sewer cleaner truck and manhole vacuum in all types of work requiring sewer maintenance, including soft-digging operations.
  • Operates sewer cleaning machines and other equipment related to sewer maintenance.
  • Directs and trains staff assigned to assist in the operation of a Sewer Cleaner Truck and manhole vacuum.
  • Performs routine safety checks and servicing of equipment such as fluid levels, greasing and other minor maintenance adjustments.
  • Transports machine, equipment and crew trailers to and from work sites.
  • Inspects and cleans manholes, chambers, sewer mains, superpipes manually, or otherwise, as required.
  • Operates pumps and miscellaneous equipment as required.
  • Installs road warning signs and barricades in accordance with approved standards.
  • Responds to enquiries and concerns from the public and contractors.
  • Performs repairs to sewer and water equipment as required.
  • Maintains accurate and detailed records of work performed.
  • Complies with current Occupational Health and Safety regulations, including confined space entry procedures.
  • Operates various types of equipment such as front end loader, skidsteer and water truck. 
  • Participates in on-going training, including operator certification training as directed. 
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
     

Qualifications

Education, Training And Experience Requirements

  • Secondary (high) school diploma or equivalency certificate
  • Three years’ experience related to water or sewer systems 
    INCLUDING:
    • One year of experience repairing, inspecting and cleaning sewer collection systems.
  • Possession of Level 2 Wastewater Collection Operator Certification from the Saskatchewan Operator Certification Board.
  • Possession of Level 2 Water Distribution Operator Certification from the Saskatchewan Operator Certification Board would be an asset.
  • Level 3 Wastewater Collection Operator Certification from the Saskatchewan Operator Certification Board would be an asset. 
  • Successful completion of the core training module for heavy equipment operation. 
  • Possession of a valid Saskatchewan Class 1A or 3AG Driver's Licence. 
  • Current driver’s abstract from SGI demonstrating a safe driving record.
  • Must comply with all safety related requirements.

Knowledge, Abilities And Skills

  • Considerable knowledge of the principles of sewer main operation and maintenance.
  • Considerable knowledge of the correct operating procedures and practices for all equipment and tools of the sewer main maintenance trade including industrial vacuum and high pressure water jetting equipment.
  • Considerable knowledge of the correct operating procedures and practices for all equipment and tools related to hydro-excavation.
  • Knowledge of related Corporate safety policies, regulations, bylaws, standards and specifications.
  • Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety requirements as applied to sewer main maintenance, including traffic control regulations and procedures.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate sewer main maintenance equipment.
  • Ability to read and understand engineering drawings.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Ability to perform confined entries complete with necessary fall protection equipment and air quality monitoring equipment. 
  • Physical ability to perform the assigned duties.

Additional Requirements

Shift and weekend work may be required.

Weekly Hours: 40 

Salary Range: $29.40 to $31.43 CAD per hour (2023 rates)
