This position is a CUPE 59 position and will be filled in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Should it not be filled in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement, external candidates will be considered.

Job Summary

Under supervision of the Environmental Operations Manager, this position coordinates environmental programs, plans, and projects.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Develops, prepares and monitors waste minimization and other related environmental programs.
  • Provides program and contract support for waste minimization operations by reviewing, monitoring and assessing contract performance to ensure they meet documented level of service standards, operational procedures, and occupational health and safety procedures.
  • Plans and monitors the collection and analysis of data related to the performance of waste minimization and related environmental programs.  Develops, prepares, monitors, and presents reports on the implementation of environmental programs.
  • Develops and recommends business strategies and policies to provide the most cost-efficient delivery of programs.
  • Advises on public education campaigns and serves on various committees to elicit Saskatoon resident cooperation and participation in the implementation of various environmental programs and projects.
  • Advises on the development of promotional materials including the City’s website, advertisements and educational materials for delivery during public events, community meetings, exhibits, web site promotions and local publications.
  • Acts as a liaison with community associations, environmental organizations, city departments, and other agencies and organizations involved in environmental initiatives.
  • Collaborates with communications staff and contractors to coordinate media relations and other promotional activities for environmental initiatives.
  • Assists with investigating, evaluating and recommending acceptance of new or alternate technologies.  
  • Assists with securing project funding, including preparing and reporting on grant applications.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education, Training and Experience Requirements: 

  • Degree in a related field.
  • Four year’s experience in the environmental management field. 
  • Possession of a valid Saskatchewan Class 5 Driver’s Licence.
  • Driver’s abstract from SGI demonstrating safe driving record.

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: 

  • Considerable knowledge of community recycling and composting practices.
  • Knowledge of sustainability principles.
  • Knowledge of research, planning and evaluation processes as they relate to environmental projects and programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, including preparing and presenting complex technical reports.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with civic staff, civic officials, representatives of other agencies and the public.
  • Skill in critical thinking and problem solving.  
  • Skill in the operation of a computer with Microsoft Office software.

Additional Requirements

Evening and weekend work are required.

Weekly Hours: 36.67 

Salary Range: $80,673.60 to $88,943.04 CAD per hour or per annum (2026 rates)
