This position is a IBEW 319 position and will be filled in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Should it not be filled in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement, external candidates will be considered.

Job Summary

Under the supervision of the Senior Project Management Engineer, this position performs office and field work related to street lighting, substations, network systems and distribution.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Plans and designs overhead and underground systems, street and pathway lighting systems, network and substations.
  • Prepares work orders, cost estimates and budget estimates, as required.
  • Performs field work, as required, including elementary surveying, physical and electrical measurements, inspections and contractor supervision in conjunction with appropriate trades and recording of all installations.
  • Performs related assignments for the engineering staff.
  • Will be responsible for inspecting materials typically used in day-to-day operations of a utility (example: transformers, Overhead and Underground cable, padmount switches, etc.)
  • Troubleshooting system failures like Cable fault finding.
  • Perform field based non-destructive testing of electrical equipment to verify the integrity of the electrical systems.
  • Perform testing on electrical relays used in substations and various field equipment like padmount switches
  • Will be responsible for commissioning various new field installations.
  • Supervise the switching book update process and authorize system changes by working collaboratively with System Operator.
  • Supervises the work of the Electrical Engineering Technologist I.
  • Assists with operations of system, including high voltage system switching and preparation of switching orders.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education, Training and Experience Requirements

  • Graduation from a recognized, two-year, post-secondary Electrical Engineering Technology program.
  • Registered as a Professional Technologist (P. Tech) with the Technology Professionals Saskatchewan.
  • Four to seven years related experience in an electrical utility with exposure to Transmission, Distribution, Substations and Streetlighting will be an asset.
  • Successful completion of Technologist I Skills Assessment exam.
  • Possession of a valid Saskatchewan Class 5 Driver's Licence.
  • Current driver's abstract from SGI demonstrating a safe driving record.

 

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills

  • Ability to deal courteously and tactfully with the public and to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Physical ability to perform the assigned duties outside under varying weather conditions.
  • Skill in the use of a computer with spreadsheet, database and AutoCAD software.

Weekly Hours: 37.33 

Salary Range: $52.14 to $54.64 CAD per hour (2026 rates)
