This position is a IBEW 319 position and will be filled in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Should it not be filled in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement, external candidates will be considered.

Job Summary

Under supervision of the Senior Project Management Engineer, this position performs office and field work related to the design, implementation and maintenance of various electronic, computer, networking and communication systems within the electric distribution utility.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Performs planning and design work, as required, for various analog, digital, computer, computer networking and data communications systems utilized in a wide variety of applications within the electric utility. (This may include protection, monitoring, control, metering, and computer network systems, etc., and will involve various serial, ethernet, wireless and fiber optic communications systems.)
  • Performs field work as required, including inspections, commissioning, troubleshooting, and recording of all equipment installations. This will involve working in conjunction with appropriate trades and may include contractor supervision.
  • Provides technical support for the operation, maintenance, commissioning and upgrading of Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) master station and remote terminal unit (RTU) hardware and software.
  • Prepares budget estimates, cost and schedule estimates, and work orders as required.
  • Performs various technical analyses and prepares reports as required.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education, Training and Experience Requirements

  • Graduation from a recognized post-secondary, two-year, Computer Engineering Technology or Electronic Systems Engineering Technology program.
  • Eligible for certification as Professional Technologist (P. Tech) with the Technology Professionals Saskatchewan.
  • Two years experience with industrial automation, networking and data communication systems preferred.
  • Possession of a valid Saskatchewan Class 5 Driver’s Licence.
  • Current driver’s abstract from SGI demonstrating a safe driving record.

 

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills

  • Knowledge of data communications, networking and web-based technologies.
  • Knowledge of network hardware, topologies, protocols, operating systems, administration and industrial network security.
  • Knowledge of personal computers, computer programming and applications software.
  • Knowledge of data acquisition, SCADA systems, and PLCs.
  • Knowledge of AC electrical theory and familiarity with electric utility equipment.
  • Ability to recognize hazardous situations or conditions.
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision.
  • Ability to provide effective direction to others.

Weekly Hours: 37.33 

Salary Range: $101,212.66 to $106,057.59 CAD per annum (2026 rates)
