This position is a CUPE 59 position and will be filled in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Should it not be filled in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement, external candidates will be considered.

Job Summary

Reporting to the Building Operations Supervisor, this role assists in the operation and preventive maintenance of building systems and equipment and is a functional lead which evaluates the work of staff responsible for building cleaning and custodial services.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Lead and assist with the operation, monitoring, and routine maintenance of building systems, including mechanical, electrical, HVAC, and building automation systems, to support safe, efficient, and reliable facility operations.
  • Provide functional leadership by directing, coordinating, and inspecting the work of assigned staff, as required, to ensure tasks are completed in accordance with established procedures, safety practices, service standards, and operational priorities.
  • Perform and track facility preventative maintenance and general maintenance requests using the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS, SAP).
  • Perform maintenance and repair work to building structures, fixtures, and equipment, prioritizing issues based on safety and operational impact.
  • Assist with the relocation, installation, and setup of fixtures, furniture, and equipment.
  • Acts as Building Operations Supervisor as required.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education, Training and Experience Requirements

  • Completion of Grade 12 education.
  • Two (2) year post-secondary diploma for Power Engineering or other relevant educational experience.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in mechanical, facility, or building systems maintenance and operation, including a minimum of one (1) year of supervisory experience.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • Possession of a valid Fourth-Class Power Engineer's License with TSASK.
  • Possession of a valid Refrigeration Engineer's License with TSASK.
  • Possession of or ability to obtain BOMI Systems Maintenance Certificate (SMC)
  • Possession of or ability to obtain within six (6) months Saskatchewan Swimming Pool Operators course.
  • Possession of or ability to obtain First Aid/CPR C/AED certificates.
  • Possession of a valid Saskatchewan Class 5 Driver's Licence.
  • Current driver’s abstract from SGI demonstrating a safe driving record.

 

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills

  • Knowledge of building systems operation and maintenance, including mechanical, electrical, HVAC, life‑safety, and building automation systems; demonstrated understanding of standard methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in preventive and corrective maintenance activities.
  • Knowledge of the materials, practices and equipment used in custodial and maintenance work.
  • Working knowledge of custodial operations
  • Ability to plan, assign and provide functional leadership to the work of assigned staff.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated technical skill in the operation and basic troubleshooting of building control and automation systems
  • Physical capability to perform the assigned duties.

Requires Security Check

Acceptable current Criminal Record Check (CRC) and Vulnerable Sector Search (VSS) upon offer of employment.

Additional Requirements

  • Shift work and weekend work may be involved.
  • Participation in an on‑call rotation is required.

Weekly Hours: 40 

Salary Range: $34.78 to $38.85 CAD per hour (2026 rates)
