Job Summary
Under supervision of the Operations Manager (Wastewater Treatment) and the direction of the Operations Coordinator, this position performs a variety of duties assisting with wastewater treatment plant operations.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Performs duties of the Plant Operator and Assistant Plant Operator, as required.
- Assists with data entry, stores functions, hazardous material inventory and work procedure documentation, as required
- Assists with mechanical maintenance duties.
- Assists with the maintenance of plant grounds, including general equipment maintenance.
- Performs maintenance and cleaning of related buildings, operational infrastructure and process equipment.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education, Training And Experience Requirements

Class 4 Wastewater Treatment Operator Certification plus four years’ wastewater treatment experience with 2 years’ acting as a Plant Operator and 2 years’ acting as an Assistant Plant Operator.
OR
- Graduation from a recognized, two-year, post-secondary program in a related field (water resources engineering technology, environmental engineering technology, chemical engineering technology or civil engineering technology) plus successful completion of Class 4 Wastewater Treatment Operator Exam and two years’ wastewater treatment experience acting as a Plant Operator.

Possession of a Certificate of Completion for the California State University courses for Operation of Wastewater Treatment Plants Volumes I and II.

Possession of valid, recognized first aid and CPR certificates.

Possession of a valid Saskatchewan Class 5 Driver’s Licence.

Current driver’s abstract from SGI demonstrating a safe driving record.
Knowledge, Abilities And Skills
-
Knowledge of wastewater treatment procedures, operations and general practices applied to the care and safe operation of plant equipment.

Knowledge of methods, chemicals, materials and tools used in wastewater treatment.

Knowledge of safety practices and procedures.

Ability to operate large equipment such as forklifts and tractors.

Ability to make minor repairs to wastewater treatment plant equipment.

Ability to perform duties in a safe and efficient manner while maintaining a clean work site.

Ability to record meter readings and make simple arithmetic calculations accurately.

Ability to work with hazardous chemicals such as ammonium hydroxide, lime, and chlorine.

Ability to remain calm in emergency situations.

Ability to supervise the work of subordinate staff and assume responsibility for the operation of a shift.

Ability to deal tactfully and effectively with other employees and the public.

Physical ability to perform the assigned duties.

Skill in the use of a computer with word-processing, spreadsheet and other data-processing software.

Shift work is involved.
Weekly Hours: 38.75
Salary Range: $70,968.96 to $76,760.16 CAD per annum (2023 rates)
