Job Summary
Under supervision of the Urban Biological Services Supervisor, this position assists with the monitoring and control of mosquitoes, small mammals, Dutch elm disease, other insects and diseases.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Controls and monitors the population of mosquitoes, Dutch elm disease, and other insects and plant diseases. May also be assigned duties related to hard-surface weed control, firewood collection, or ground squirrel management.
- Ensures that all pesticide products are stored, handled and used according to the appropriate Federal and Provincial legislation.
- Operates and performs minor repairs to a variety of equipment used in mosquito control and other pest management operations.
- Supports and promotes a safe and positive workplace culture through a variety of initiatives and activities.
- Supports and promotes the health and safety of employees in accordance with the Occupational Health & Safety Act & Regulations in addition to the City of Saskatoon’s Administrative Occupational Health & Safety.
- Policies and departmental procedures.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education, Training and Experience Requirements
- Grade 12 education.
- Possession or the ability to obtain a valid Mosquito and Biting Fly, Structural or Landscape Class, Saskatchewan Pesticide Applicator Licence.
- Three months' related horticultural/agricultural experience.
- Possession of a valid Saskatchewan full Class 5 Driver’s Licence is required, or at minimum, a Class 5 (Novice 2).
- Current driver’s abstract from SGI demonstrating a safe driving record.
Knowledge, Abilities and Skills
- Physical ability to perform the assigned duties under a variety of weather conditions.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public and civic employees.
- Ability to work in a computerized/digital environment, including the use of Microsoft Outlook, SAP and mobile devices.
- Knowledge and ability to use a variety of hand tools.

Weekly Hours: 40
Salary Range: $21.46 to $23.67 CAD per hour (2026 rates)
