Job Summary

Under supervision of the Service Supervisor, this position conducts training programs and evaluations pertaining to vehicle operation and assists with the development and maintenance of related programs.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Trains and instructs employees in the proper methods and procedures for the safe and efficient operation of Transit vehicles.
  • Ensures that employees are trained properly to meet the requirements of a Transit Operator. 
  • Assists with the development and maintenance of an effective driver training program, as required.
  • Performs evaluations and reviews of operators to ensure safe, effective and efficient operation of vehicles in compliance of Transit procedures.  Conducts refresher courses, as required.
  • Serves on the Saskatoon Transit Vehicle Accident Adjudication Committee.
  • Assists with the maintenance of records related to driver training, vehicle accidents and adjudications.
  • Provides oral and detailed written reports, as required.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 education. 
  • Possession of a valid Saskatchewan Class 2A Driver's Licence.
  • Current driver’s abstract from SGI demonstrating a safe and exemplary driving record.
  • Five years' experience driving a conventional bus for the City of Saskatoon.
  • Thorough knowledge of The Highway Traffic Act & Regulations, and City and Transit policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of, and empathy with, the transportation needs of persons with disabilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate training programs effectively to adult learners.
  • Demonstrated ability to deal courteously and tactfully with the public.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, civic departments and outside agencies.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated safe and superior driving skills.
  • Working knowledge of a computer using the Microsoft Office Suite.

Additional Requirements

Variable and subject to changes in operational requirements. Evening & weekend work may be required.

Weekly Hours: 40 

Salary Range: $31.84 to $34.75 CAD per hour (2023 rates)
