Job Summary

This position performs professional engineering work involving electric utility planning for Saskatoon Light & Power and the integration of power generation into this system. Reports to the Metering & Sustainable Electricity Manager.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Promote and act as liaison with proponents of major sustainable electricity and customer generation initiatives.
  • Provide project management to sustainable electricity projects.
  • Co-ordinate existing generation, bulk power purchases and proposals for new generation with load forecasts and long range planning to ensure a secure supply of electrical power.
  • Determine impact of new and customer generation proposals on system reliability and system ratings.
  • Propose and/or assist in the proposal and justification of alternative plans for the expansion of the distribution system or the accommodations necessary for a generation proposal and other customer service modifications.
  • Prepare and/or assist in the preparation of projects for the annual capital plan and budget. This includes, but not limited to, the preparation of documents, preparation of estimates and justification reports.
  • Promote and provide leadership with regards to the interface of distributed generation within the Utility.
  • Provide technical support to other sections.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Degree in engineering, electrical engineering preferred.
  • Four to six years’ experience in electric utility distribution, with one or more years specifically related to generation or distributed generation.
  • Registration or eligibility for registration, as a professional engineer, in the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Saskatchewan.
  • Knowledge of the principles and techniques involved in the design, construction and general operation of electrical distribution with a specific knowledge of generation.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing
  • Ability to analyze, evaluate and prepare a variety of reports, plans and specifications.
  • Ability to provide project management and site supervision.
     

Weekly Hours: 36.67 

Salary Range: $86,211.84 to $101,175.60 CAD per annum (2022 rates)
