This position is a CUPE 859 position and will be filled in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Should it not be filled in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement, external candidates will be considered.
Job Summary
Under supervision of the Supervisor VI, this working supervisor position supervises and performs the duties of sidewalk and landscape maintenance and base construction staff, and allocates related equipment.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Supervises, trains, directs, evaluates and performs the duties of staff engaged in maintaining and rehabilitating concrete and base components of the City’s sidewalks.
- Ensures the efficient use of equipment and materials.
- Ensures work activities are performed in accordance with approved standards, specifications and activity guidelines, including corporate safety policies and regulations. Assists with the development of standards and specifications, as required.
- Assists with the development of a detailed annual work plan and monitors progress of the plan.
- Maintains comprehensive records of maintenance and rehabilitation activities performed and ensures forms are completed accurately.
- Ensures that maintenance work is not performed prior to receiving authorization from all utilities.
- Ensures that equipment and materials are ordered, received and in place prior to starting maintenance and rehabilitation activities. Assists with the review and selection of materials and products, as required.
- Reviews and analyzes maintenance activities and makes recommendations for improvement.
- Responds to enquiries and complaints, as required.
- Performs the duties of the Supervisor VI, as required.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education, Training and Experience Requirements:
- Grade 12 education.
- Three years’ experience in sidewalk, landscape and base construction.
- Possession of a valid Saskatchewan Class 5 Driver’s Licence.
- Current driver’s abstract from SGI demonstrating a safe driving record.
- Possession of a valid first aid certificate.
- Successful completion of, or ability to complete successfully, a recognized supervisory certificate program.
Knowledge, Abilities and Skills:
- Demonstrated ability to plan, assign and supervise the work of subordinates.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor, lead and encourage staff to develop skills and work towards organizational and departmental goals.
- Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to follow all applicable procedures, policies, legislation, regulations, standards and specifications.
- Demonstrated ability to regularly and consistently attend work to ensure effective operations and service delivery.
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the team, the public, contractors and all civic employees.
- Considerable knowledge of the operation of the variety of equipment used in sidewalk and landscape maintenance and base construction.
- Considerable knowledge of sidewalk and landscape maintenance and base construction materials, methods and techniques, including related computer applications.
- Considerable knowledge of related engineering terminology and techniques.
- Knowledge of subsurface utility installations.
- Ability to operate technical monitoring devices used for sidewalk and landscape maintenance and base construction.
- Ability to compile and interpret technical data in a comprehensive manner.
- Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
- Physical ability to perform the assigned duties.
- Skill in the care and use of office and field equipment, e.g. desktop or notebook computers and field data loggers.
Additional Requirements
Shift work and weekend work may be involved.
Weekly Hours: 40
Salary Range: $35.22 to $36.11 CAD per hour (2026 rates)
