This position is a CUPE 859 position and will be filled in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Should it not be filled in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement, external candidates will be considered.

Job Summary

Under the supervision of the Supervisor VI (Sign and Paint Shop), this position performs all aspects of sign manufacturing and the maintenance of manual and computerized inventory databases.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Performs preparation, layout, manufacture and salvage of traffic, informational and specialty signs.
  • Operates and maintains all equipment used in the construction and manufacturing of signs, including computerized sign making equipment, fabrication of silk screens, sign baking oven and spray-booth equipment.
  • Enters and maintains manual and computerized sign inventory, charge-out and other database programs.
  • Maintains daily work activity logs, inventory and maintenance records.
  • Provides guidance and direction to subordinate staff.
  • Assists with the installation, maintenance and removal of signs, detours and pavement markings.
  • Participates in shop and yard maintenance.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education, Training And Experience Requirements

  • Grade 12 education.
  • Three years’ experience in the manufacture and installation of traffic signs.
  • Successful completion of a recognized signing and detouring course.
  • Possession of a valid Class 5 Saskatchewan Driver's Licence.
  • Current driver’s abstract from SGI demonstrating a safe driving record.
  • Possession of a valid first aid certificate.

Knowledge, Abilities And Skills

  • Demonstrated ability to regularly and consistently attend work to ensure effective operations and service delivery.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of, and ability to follow all applicable procedures and policies. 
  • Considerable knowledge of the Sign and Paint Shop inventory procedures and materials.
  • Considerable knowledge of WHMIS health and safety standards.
  • Knowledge of the City‘s Work Zone Traffic Control procedures.
  • Demonstrated ability to read and comprehend engineering drawings as related to sign manufacturing and installation.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to organize and perform assignments expediently.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Ability to train and direct subordinate staff.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Physical ability to perform the assigned duties under all weather conditions.
  • Skill in the use of equipment, materials, practices and standards associated with the manufacture and installation of traffic signs.
  • Skill in the operation of computers using spreadsheet and database programs.

Additional Requirements

Shift work and weekend work may be involved.

Weekly Hours: 40 

Salary Range: $30.85 CAD per hour (2026 rates)
