Job Summary

This position oversees the day to day operations of conventional Transit through the supervision of bus operators and various support staff to ensure that safe, efficient and dependable bus and charter service is provided to all Saskatoon Transit Services customers.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Supervises, schedules and trains staff.  Assists with recruitment and performs performance management processes.
  • Participates in the investigation and analysis of workplace accidents/incidents, report findings and recommends corrective action that includes: identifying root-causes and assisting with the implementation of counter-measures.
  • Represents Transit at public meetings, provides information sessions to schools and international students.
  • Coordinates and participates in transit security programs.
  • Monitors and reports on customer service programs and initiatives; investigates and resolves customer complaints.
  • Provides accurate route and schedule information to staff and members of the public.
  • Reports unsafe road conditions; establishes detours to maintain service following accidents, breakdowns, or when routes are impassable.
  • Maintains records associated with all Transit staff training programs, vehicle accidents, adjudications and operator certifications and assessments.
  • Monitors radio transmissions with bus operators to ensure system is operating efficiently.
  • Relieves Operators in emergent situations.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Successful completion of one year of a recognized post-secondary program in a related discipline.
  • Four to six years’ progressively responsible experience.  Supervisory experience and experience in the transit or transportation industry is an asset.
  • Possession of a valid Saskatchewan Class 2A Driver’s Licence.
  • Current driver’s abstract from SGI demonstrating a safe driving record.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide supervision, leadership and training in order to achieve desired results.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and administer relevant aspects of the collective agreement.
  • Demonstrated ability to assess and resolve complaints in a satisfactory manner, including investigating and recommending appropriate solutions.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide effective customer service.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, while maintaining a high degree of confidentiality.
  • Demonstrated skill in the operation of a computer with word-processing, databases and spreadsheets.

Weekly Hours: 36.67 

Salary Range: $71,064.48 to $83,177.52 CAD per annum (2023 rates)
