Job Summary

Under the supervision of the Landscape Development Coordinator, this position assists with project management of landscape projects, provides landscape and irrigation design drawings, maintains and updates specifications and project costing, and provides AutoCAD drafting services.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Coordinates the construction of Parks landscape design elements with contractors, completing site inspections for landscape construction including but not limited to irrigation, drainage, paving and storm sewer.
  • Provides contract administration, including the preparation of project inspection reports and verification of construction quantities.
  • Communicates regularly with internal staff, contractors, engineers, other government and regulatory agencies and the public as required to schedule and coordinate work.
  • Develops landscape, irrigation, and drainage designs in collaboration with other staff and consultants.
  • Performs design and AutoCAD drafting services for various  landscape development projects.
  • Project planning, budgeting, costing and feasibility studies.
  • Coordinates with other departments to address/resolve safety concerns and related to parks projects e.g. drainage, irrigation, and asphalt
  • Collaborates with team members to prepare tender documents.
  • Monitors construction costs and updates department cost estimates annually.
  • Assists with the maintenance and revision of construction specifications, drawings and standards.
  • Assists with the maintenance of accurate shop drawings and other project records.
  • Supports and promotes the health and safety of employees in accordance with the Occupational Health & Safety Act & Regulations in addition to the City of Saskatoon’s Administrative Occupational Health & Safety Policies and departmental procedures.
  • Performs general office duties and other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Graduation from a recognized two-year, post-secondary drafting technology program, engineering technology or landscape architectural technology program.
  • Possession of, or eligibility for, Saskatchewan Applied Science Technologist and Technicians certification as an Applied Science Technologist (A.Sc.T.)
  • The ability to successfully complete 2 courses from the Irrigation Association after 6 months of hire. One course specializing in Irrigation Installation & Maintenance and one course in Irrigation Design.
  • The ability to successfully complete 3 courses from the EPIC Educational Programs Innovations Center after 2 years of hire specializing in drainage design & inspection and storm sewer construction.
  • Three years’ related experience, including inspection and project management experience. Experience in irrigation design and drainage projects would be a benefit.
  • Possession of a valid Saskatchewan Class 5 Drivers License and the ability to use a personal vehicle for travel between worksites.
  • Current driver’s abstract from SGI demonstrating a safe driving record.
  • Knowledgeable of materials and methods used in landscape design/construction, including irrigation, paving   and storm sewer construction.
  • Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with contractors, consultants, suppliers, external organizations, civic staff and the public.
  • Proficiency in the use of computers including Microsoft Office software and AutoCAD. Experienced in Learning Management Software (SAP).
  • Ability to establish and enforce work standards including safe conduct on the job.
  • Physical ability to perform the assigned duties, including outdoors in adverse weather conditions.

Weekly Hours: 36.67 

Salary Range: $73,299.84 to $80,813.28 CAD per annum (2025 rates)
