Job Summary
Under the supervision of the Senior Project Management Engineer in charge, this position performs administrative, supervisory, and complex drafting duties for the Drafting function at Saskatoon Light & Power (SL&P). This is a working supervisor position, with an expectation time will be split between working as a Drafting/GIS Technologist and as team supervisor.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Supervises, trains and develops staff, in the Drafting function.
- Plans, organizes, schedules and assigns work to meet deadlines.
- Develops and maintains Drafting standards for SL&P.
- Ensures all Drafting work is consistent and complies with the Drafting standards.
- Develops and monitors performance metrics for the timely completion of as-built drawings and GIS model inputs.
- Responsible to ensure proper organization and maintenance of the printed and electronic drawings/files within the drawing database.
- Leads strategic initiatives to improve on drafting processes and efficiencies with SL&P.
- Creates and revises drawings (maps, schematics, wiring diagrams, etc.), GIS features and related databases from as-built sketches, field notes, and preliminary designs using AutoCAD and ESRI GIS software.
- Files and distributes printed and digital copies of maps and other technical drawings.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education, Training and Experience Requirements
- Graduation from a recognized, two-year, post-secondary Drafting technology program with AutoCAD courses in addition to completion of a GIS certificate program.
- Minimum 5 years related experience using AutoCAD and LISP applications.
- Eligible for registration as a Professional Technologist with Technology Professionals Saskatchewan within 12 months of start date.
- Completion of City of Saskatoon Supervisor 101 course within 12 months of commencing the role.
Knowledge, Abilities and Skills
- Knowledge of technical terminology, practices, techniques, equipment and software used to prepare and maintain drawings, particularly for an electric utility, is required.
- Ability to read and understand detailed electrical and site plans, electrical schematics, and specifications is required.
- Thorough knowledge of construction, engineering and survey techniques and practices is required.
- Demonstrated experience with the ESRI software suite is required.
- Demonstrated experience with ArcFM is required.
- Demonstrated ability to work both individually and as part of a team with minimal supervision is required.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing is required.
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships is required.
- Experience leading, developing and coaching a team is an asset.
- Experience with programming, database management and similar tools is considered a strong asset.
Weekly Hours: 37.33
Salary Range: $74,385.60 to $82,792.80 CAD per annum (2023 rates)
