Job Summary
Reporting to the Corporate Security Manager, the Senior Security Advisor plans, coordinates and delivers a comprehensive security strategy in partnership with City of Saskatoon Transit. This position will be expected to bring together experts from internal and external organizations to collaboratively plan for safety and security with Saskatoon Transit. Delivery of this multi-disciplinary model will proactively plan for a secure environment on and around Saskatoon Transit facilities, terminals, buses, bus shelters, and assets. It connects and coordinates services and systems, making the best use of available resources based on data-driven decisions.
This people-first approach prioritizes the well-being, comfort, safety, and security of the public and staff. It supports designing, implementing, and maintaining Saskatoon Transit security processes, procedures, and resources with a primary focus on the needs and experiences of the people who use them.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Collaborates with City of Saskatoon internal and external partners and contractors to coordinate security and safety services.
- Coordinates the work of contracted security guards by providing advice, guidance, instructions and direction; ensuring that assigned work is carried out according to the required standards for service quality, accuracy and productivity as required by the City; making on-site security operating decisions during special assignments, events or emergencies.
- Mentors and provides expert guidance and security awareness training to stakeholders on corporate security concerns/situations to ensure all work is completed in a safe manner.
- As a security subject matter expert, coordinates and delivers a comprehensive security strategy to Saskatoon Transit. This includes assisting in the development of detailed plans, safety audits and risk assessments and uses policies / procedures regarding program specific requirements to implement proactive steps to provide a safe and secure environment for employees and residents.
- Provides security guidance based on technical knowledge, supplemented by analysis of data and other evidence, experiences, research, and critical thought.
- In collaboration with the Corporate Security Operations Specialist, provides advice, consultation and support on security systems, hardware, policies and procedures.
- Coordinates with local authorities such as law enforcement, fire, and medical services to liaison for services.
- Represents Corporate Security at meetings and on various workgroups, committees, and project teams.
Qualifications
- Two years post-secondary diploma in security administration/management, public safety, or a related field.
- Four to six years of progressively responsible experience in security work or a related field. Preference will be given to those who have experience providing street level support to a vulnerable population and in collaboration with a police service of jurisdiction.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Possession of a valid Saskatchewan Class 5 Driver’s Licence.
- Current driver’s abstract demonstrating a safe driving record.
- Demonstrated ability to manage the complexity of safety and security within organizations that provide a critical public service to all residents.
- Knowledge of common security policies and various related Acts and Codes, including the Criminal Code and Trespass to Property Act, etc.
- Ability to meet deadlines and deal with conflicting priorities and work demands, as well as to identify, analyze and solve problems independently.
- Demonstrated ability to make decisions that promote and foster teamwork with the ability to manage change effectively within the mission and priorities of Corporate Security clients.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing, including preparing and presenting formal information and decision reports.
- Demonstrated ability to liaise and resolve challenging situations with the community and build strong partnerships and trust.
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain positive and productive working relationships with other employees, civic officials, representatives of other agencies and the public.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain composure in stressful situations and the ability to ensure fairness, prevention, Trauma Informed Approach, and de-escalation in sensitive situations while dealing with vulnerable individuals.
- Demonstrated ability in conflict resolution, negotiation, and problem-solving skills with a result-oriented approach.
- Ability to work independently under minimal supervision.
- Ability to initiate and implement procedures and measures to increase operational efficiency and effectiveness.
- Skill in the operation of office equipment, including a computer with Microsoft Word software.
- Physical ability to perform the assigned duties.

Weekly Hours: 36.67
Salary Range: $71,064.48 to $83,177.52 CAD per annum (2023 rates)
