This position is a ATU 615 position and will be filled in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Should it not be filled in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement, external candidates will be considered.

Job Summary

Under supervision of the Planning Supervisor, this position performs a wide range of functions related to the efficient delivery of transit services.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assists with planning, designing and costing of efficient daily routes, special events, and locating stops and shelters, to meet customer and community needs.
  • Assists with determining routes to regulate day-to-day schedules and special services in response to planned and emergency detours, traffic and road conditions, passenger volumes, accidents, mechanical breakdowns, etc.
  • Collects, records and prepares passenger and other operations statistics required to evaluate system performance.
  • Assists with reports and studies pertaining to route design, schedule reliability, passenger volumes and locations of bus stops, shelters and benches.
  • Responds to enquiries regarding schedules, routes, bus stops and shelters.
  • Attends meetings, as required, to plan and provide community, school, and special services and events.
  • Assists with the preparation of reports and recommendations.
  • Assists with the development and maintenance of the transit map and database for the geographic information system.
  • Prepares billing for charter services.
  • Prepares detailed maps, schedules and other public information required for the operation of routes and special services.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 education, preferably supplemented with post-secondary courses in statistical analysis.
  • Possession of, or the ability to obtain within six months after date of hire, CUTA Schedules Planning certification.
  • Five years’ progressively responsible experience in transit operations.
  • Ability to design efficient and effective routes and schedules manually. Ability to use Windows-based, run-cutting software would be an asset.
  • Ability to organize tasks and work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to perform statistical analysis of data.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, civic departments and outside agencies.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Ability to deal courteously and tactfully with the public.
  • Demonstrated skill in the operation of a computer with word-processing, spreadsheet and database software in a Windows environment. Skill in the operation of AutoCAD in a Windows environment would be an asset.

Weekly Hours: 36.67 

Salary Range: $65,061.84 to $70,242.00 CAD per annum (2026 rates)
