Job Summary

Under supervision of the Operations Manager (Wastewater Treatment) and Maintenance Manager (Wastewater Treatment), this position assists with plant operation, mechanical maintenance and grounds maintenance.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Performs the duties of the Assistant Plant Operator, as required.
  • Assists with mechanical maintenance duties.
  • Assists with the maintenance of the plant grounds, including general equipment maintenance.
  • Performs building maintenance and general maintenance involved with the operation of a wastewater treatment plant, including cleaning equipment. 
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education, Training and Experience Requirements:

  • Grade 12 education and documentation from the Operator Certification Board (OCB) of Saskatchewan stating the  possession of a minimum of 60 CEU’s eligible for the educational requirements of the OCB.
  • Possession of a Certificate of Completion for the California State University courses for Operation of Wastewater Treatment Plants Volumes I and II.
  • Successful completion of the Class 2 Wastewater Treatment Operator Exam and must obtain level II certification within 2 years of hire.

 OR

  • Graduation from a recognized minimum two year post-secondary program in water resources engineering technology, environmental engineering technology, civil engineering technology, chemical engineering technology, biological sciences, or equivalent.
  • Must obtain level II certification within 2 years of hire.
  • One year of water or wastewater plant experience preferred.
  • Possession of, within four months after date of hire, a valid Fireman’s Certificate.,
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid, recognized first aid certificate.
  • Possession of a valid Saskatchewan Class 5 Driver’s Licence.
  • Current driver’s abstract demonstrating a safe driving record.

 

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills:

  • Knowledge of wastewater treatment procedures, operations and general practices applied to the care and safe operation of plant equipment.
  • Knowledge of methods, chemicals, materials and tools used in wastewater treatment.
  • Knowledge of practices related to the care and operation of equipment and materials used in building and grounds maintenance. 
  • Knowledge of safety practices and procedures.
  • Ability to perform duties in a safe and efficient manner while maintaining a clean work site. 
  • Ability to perform duties with minimal supervision. 
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to remain calm in emergency situations.
  • Physical ability to perform the assigned duties.

Acceptable current Criminal Record Check (CRC) upon offer of employment.

Additional Requirements

Shift work is involved.

Weekly Hours: 38.75 

Salary Range: $58,100.88 to $62,842.08 CAD per annum (2023 rates)
