Job Summary

Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, Recreation Leaders facilitate play activities that provide a safe and fun play experience at city wide summer recreational sites hosted by the City of Saskatoon. 
Activities and activity plans facilitated by Recreation Leaders include sports, games, arts, crafts, drama, music and/or water play.
Depending upon specific experience and interest, Recreation Leaders may be assigned to Youth Centre, Paddling Pools, Spray Pads, or Playground activities around the City!

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Plans, organizes, and delivers balanced social and recreation activities with particular attention and focus on children and youth in our culturally diverse community.
  • Monitors activities and ensures a safe, clean, and healthy values-based environment.
  • Takes action to ensure all Occupational Health and Safety procedures are followed, including all Public Health Standards. 
  • Understands the Workplace Violence Prevention Program and Respectful and Harassment-Free Workplace Policies and expectations of the City of Saskatoon and supports a positive culture with the resolution of conflicts at recreation sites, where required.
  • Coordinates and completes evaluations and reports of programming. 
  • Performs various daily maintenance and cleaning duties assigned at specific operations. This may include working with chemicals.
  • Performs administrative duties as required. 
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Completed Grade 10
  • Preference is given to applicants with a minimum of one year of post-secondary education in recreation/leisure, physical education, early childhood development, education, or related field or 
  • One year of experience working with or volunteering for children/youth delivering recreation or children’s programs is preferred.
  • Experience working with Newcomer and Indigenous children and youth is an asset.
  • Possession of or ability to obtain by position start date a valid, recognized standard first aid certificate and CPR level C.
  • Acceptable current Criminal Record Check (CRC)
  • Vulnerable Sector Search (VSS) upon offer of employment, where over 18 years of age
  • For positions where driving is required; possession of a valid Saskatchewan Class 5 Driver’s Licence and current driver’s abstract, from SGI, demonstrating a safe driving record is required.

Requires Security Check

Acceptable current Criminal Record Check (CRC) and Vulnerable Sector Search (VSS) upon offer of employment.

Weekly Hours: Between 12-39 hours per week (evening/weekend work is required)

Salary Range: $19.64 to $21.66 CAD per hour (2025 rates)
