This position is a CUPE 59 position and will be filled in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Should it not be filled in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement, external candidates will be considered.

Job Summary

Under supervision of the Information Technology Coordinator, this position implements and supports the Corporate wide area network; ensures optimum functionality of available and planned network resources in the implementation of applications, databases, networks, printing and operating systems.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Coordinates and implements various network components, such as bridges, routers, switches and wiring.
  • Preforms technical reviews of corporate network infrastructure and makes recommendations for development of technical roadmaps.
  • Consults with departments to determine network requirements and presents recommendations to address these needs.
  • Monitors and evaluates resource use and performance, makes operational management recommendations to optimize infrastructure efficiencies.
  • Maintains current knowledge of technological advancements as they pertain to Departmental and Corporate requirements, and future opportunities.
  • Produces trend analysis reports and maintains network documentation.
  • Provides technical guidance, assistance and training, as required.
  • Interacts with vendor support staff and other staff to facilitate hardware and software problem resolution.
  • Supervises and trains staff as assigned.
  • Perform project roles as assigned.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education, Training and Experience Requirements:

  • Degree in computer science, or related discipline plus six years’ experience with computer networks, including three years in multi-protocol and multi-media networks and one year in planning and rollout OR completion of a recognized two-year computer systems technology program plus eight years’ experience in computer networks, including five years in multi-protocol and multi-media networks and two years in planning and rollout.
  • Certification from networking vendor, e.g. Cisco, 3Com, IBM etc.

 

Knowledge, Abilities & Skills

  • Thorough knowledge of the operational characteristics and technical architectures of network protocols.
  • Thorough knowledge of technical support requirements and project management.
  • Considerable and specific knowledge in the following areas:
    • TCP\IP, DNS, DDNS, WINS, SNMP, Active Directory and NetBios;
    • ATM, Token Ring, 10BaseT, Ethernet and structured wiring systems;
    • OSI network model;
    • Network design and management and client/server architecture and protocols.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
  • Ability to prepare and conduct presentations.
  • Ability and interpersonal skill to relate effectively with all levels of the organization and with external contacts.

Requires Security Check

Acceptable current Criminal Record Check (CRC) upon offer of employment.

Additional Requirements

Call-back, shift work and overtime may be required.

Weekly Hours: 36.67 

Salary Range: $85,754.16 to $89,817.84 CAD per annum (2026 rates)
