Job Summary
This position is Responsible for developing and maintaining the City’s enterprise architecture strategy, this position leverages enterprise architecture principles to enhance citizen services and optimize operational efficiency. It involves collaborating with senior business stakeholders and IT leaders to define architecture requirements based on corporate business drivers. The role coordinates the development and integration of Business, Data, Application, and Technology Architecture roadmaps and strategies, ensuring alignment with the City’s strategic business direction.
The work you'd be involved in:
- Leads the creation and evolution of the overall enterprise architecture strategy. Additionally ensure supporting EA Principles, Standards, and Models are defined and governed across the organization.
- Coordinates the development and integration of the Business, Data, Application, and Technology Architecture Roadmaps and strategies to align projects with the City’s strategic business directions.
- Accountable for defining, implementing and leading an application rationalization program with the aim of reducing the overall complexity of the City’s architectural footprint, reducing system costs and providing a better overall customer and employee experience.
- Drives innovation through the use of new technologies like Artificial Intelligence, Robotic Process Automation, Chatbots, Internet of Things, etc to create efficient and effective ways of delivering services.
- Builds and maintains a communications bridge between senior business stakeholders and senior technology professionals; uses corporate business drivers and Enterprise Architecture principles and roadmaps as inputs to develop Enterprise Architecture requirements and roadmaps; identifies opportunities derived from the synergies between business operations and technology.
- Oversees the development of models and documentation describing the enterprise architecture.
- Manages and leads a high-performance enterprise architecture team in the implementation and support of corporate wide enterprise architecture, strategies and processes necessary to ensure continuous improvement.
- Develops recommendations on corporate short and long term strategies, objectives, and roadmaps for effective use of resources.
- Identifies and implements industry leading practices in achieving continuous improvement and operational efficiencies within the Department.
- Ensures exceptional customer service is obtained in the delivery of enterprise architecture to the corporation.
- Contributes to the development of a comprehensive Technology Strategy and Business Plan, utilizing enterprise architecture to improve service to our citizens and improve efficiencies in operations that align with the City’s vision.
- Collaborates and aligns with business and process areas and achieves support for enterprise architecture; being aware of corporate strategies, sensitivities and priorities.
- Provides high-level assistance for strategy, policy, architecture, technology, and development methodology.
- Provides direction, leadership, performance objectives and management for the Enterprise Architecture team as their direct manager.
- Monitors and assesses emerging technologies and future direction of major application and technology platforms, providing recommendations on direction and timing for adoption.
- Liaises, confers, partners or collaborates with external stakeholders, organizations and other government agencies across Canada, noting trends and best practices that may impact the Department’s direction.
- Participates in enterprise architecture aspects of business-sponsored RFIs/RFPs, vendor contracts and agreements
- Recruits, trains, supervises, mentors, and evaluate the professional and technical staff engaged in enterprise architecture.
- Prepares and presents necessary written and verbal reports to management, relating to all aspects of enterprise architecture.
- Participates in the planning and development of Department Capital and Operating budgets.
- Manages operational budgets associated with area of responsibility.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
The type of person we are looking for:
- Degree in computer science or related discipline.
- Ten years of experience in information technology services, including five ’ experience in a management role.
- Demonstrated knowledge of industry standard frameworks such as TOGAF, Zachman, COBIT and/or ITIL
- Thorough knowledge of information processing hardware and software.
- Thorough knowledge of the principles of organization, management and administration.
- Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and guide teams to a desired result.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with, set, manage, and adhere to budget guidelines and meet required deadlines.
- Demonstrated ability to deal with issues management in a political environment.
- Demonstrated ability to develop successful short- and long-term strategic plans, manage projects and direct resources.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing, including the ability to prepare and conduct presentations.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of the organization and external contacts.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality while handling sensitive information.
Weekly Hours: 40
Salary Range: $123,869.52 to $145,546.56 CAD per annum (2025 rates)
