Job Summary
Under supervision of the Maintenance Planner, this position installs, renovates, maintains, inspects and repairs plumbing and mechanical equipment.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Installs, maintains and repairs plumbing equipment.
- Installs, repairs and renovates steam, water and gas pipelines in accordance with the Provincial Plumbing and Gas Fitting Codes.
- Installs and repairs mechanical systems and controls. Repairs pneumatic controls and heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems.
- Performs preventative maintenance of plumbing, heating, air conditioning, refrigeration systems and mechanical systems in accordance with predetermined maintenance schedules. Conducts backflow testing and inspections.
- Initiates and completes work orders.
- Prepares sketches for “as built” drawings and inspects blueprints for plumbing and mechanical systems. Designs modifications and installations in existing facilities.
- Prepares material and labour cost estimates for mechanical projects and annual maintenance budget.
- Orders plumbing supplies. Applies for gas and plumbing permits.
- Supervises and inspects the work of subordinate staff and plumbing contractors to ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards.
- Provides instruction and training in plumbing techniques, as required.
- Ensures adherence to proper safety procedures and use of proper protective equipment.
- Transports material, equipment and staff to and from job sites.
- Performs other related duties, including non-trade duties, as assigned.
Qualifications
Education, Training and Experience Requirements
- Grade 12 education.
- Possession of a Saskatchewan Journeyperson Plumber Certificate, including possession of an Apprenticeship Certificate and a General Gas Fitter Licence.
- Three years’ current journeyperson experience in the construction or industrial plant field.
- Possession of a Cross Connection and Backflow Prevention Tester’s Licence.
- Possession of a valid Fireman's Certificate.
- Possession of a valid Saskatchewan Class 5 Driver’s Licence.
- Current driver’s abstract from SGI demonstrating a safe driving record.
- Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid first aid certificate.
Knowledge, Abilities and Skills
- Knowledge of standard methods, materials, tools and equipment of the plumbing trade.
- Knowledge of the Provincial Plumbing and Gas Fitting Codes.
- Knowledge of heating and ventilation systems, including boilers, pumps and pneumatic controls.
- Ability to interpret blueprints, plans and specifications.
- Ability to plan and organize work.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
- Physical ability to perform the assigned duties.

Weekly Hours: 40
Salary Range: $34.60 to $38.15 CAD per hour (2023 rates. Negotiated increases of 3% for 2024 and 2.5% for 2025 will apply when applicable).
