Job Summary
Under supervision of the Neighbourhood Planning Manager, this position provides intermediate level professional urban design and planning services to internal and external clients.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Operates the urban design programs and provides advice on potential improvements.
- Prepares and presents reports to committees, as required.
- Communicates and negotiates with applicants, property owners, consultants and the public regarding land use policy, complaints within BID areas, urban design instalments and development issues.
- Conducts special studies and special projects related to land use policy, business development and land development, including data collection and analysis.
- Provides professional and technical support to the Neighbourhood Planning Manager.
- Assists in the understanding and promotion of sustainable land development practices as it relates to landscape development and other enhancement projects.
- Assists in the preparation of conceptual and detailed designs, related presentation drawings, working drawings, estimates, specifications and tender documents.
- Coordinates the work of, and trains, other staff, as required.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education, Training and Experience Requirements
- Degree in Planning or a directly related field complimented with experience and/or training in urban design, architecture or landscape architecture, possession of Full Membership standing in the Canadian Institute of Planners (CIP), Saskatchewan Professional Planners Institute (SPPI), and 3 years of directly related professional experience OR diploma in landscape architecture with experience and/or training in urban planning, possession of membership in the Saskatchewan Association of Architects or Saskatchewan Association of Landscape Architects, and 5 years of directly related experience.
- Possession of a valid Class 5 Saskatchewan Driver’s Licence.
- Current driver’s abstract from SGI demonstrating a safe driving record.
Knowledge, Abilities and Skills
- Considerable knowledge of the principles, standards and practices related to urban planning and professional landscape design principles, practices and construction methods.
- Considerable knowledge of related municipal Bylaws, Provincial legislation and regulations.
- Knowledge of landscape design including landscape elements, plant materials and irrigation.
- Demonstrated ability to schedule and complete numerous complex tasks within established time frames.
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow staff, clients and the public.
- Ability to prepare specifications, estimates and reports.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
- Ability to direct and coordinate the work of others.
- Ability to prepare presentations and working drawings for landscape and other enhancements.
- Demonstrated skill in the use of related business and planning software.
- Use of AutoCAD is required.
Additional Requirements
Evening work is involved on occasion.
Weekly Hours: 36.67
Salary Range: $76,002.48 to $83,793.60 CAD per annum (2025 rates)
