Job Summary

Under supervision of the Maintenance Planner, this position prepares and paints a variety of surfaces.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Prepares, repairs and paints a wide variety of buildings, structures, fixtures, furniture, equipment, etc., by hand or mechanized equipment.
  • Performs preventive maintenance of buildings, structures, etc., in accordance with predetermined maintenance schedules.
  • Initiates and completes work order documents.
  • Prepares material and labour cost estimates for painting projects and orders painting supplies.
  • Monitors and inspects the work of painting staff and contractors.
  • Transports material, equipment and staff to and from job sites.
  • Supports and promotes a safe and positive workplace culture through a variety of initiatives and activities.
  • Supports and promotes the health and safety of employees in accordance with the Occupational Health & Safety Act & Regulations in addition to the City of Saskatoon’s Administrative Occupational Health & Safety Policies and departmental procedures.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education, Training and Experience

  • Grade 12 education.
  • Possession of a Saskatchewan Journeyperson Painter and Decorator Certificate or inter-provincial certificate.
  • Three years' journeyperson experience.
  • Possession of a valid Saskatchewan Class 5 Driver's Licence.
  • Current driver’s abstract from SGI demonstrating a safe driving record.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid first aid certificate.

 

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills

  • Thorough knowledge of standard methods, materials, tools and equipment for painting preparation and painting.
  • Knowledge of the safe operation and maintenance of equipment and tools.
  • Ability to interpret blueprints, plans and specifications.
  • Ability to plan and organize work.
  • Ability to work with a minimum of supervision.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Ability to deal effectively with the public and other civic employees.
  • Physical ability to perform the assigned duties.

Additional Requirements

Shift work and weekend work may be involved.

Weekly Hours: 40 

Salary Range: $32.14 to $35.44 CAD per hour (2023 rates)
