Job Summary

Under supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor (Logistics), this position coordinates the inspection, maintenance and repair of all Department equipment.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Receives, prioritizes and processes work orders.
  • Performs inspections, repairs and maintenance on department equipment, such as self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA), fire hose, thermal imaging cameras, detection equipment, dive gear and self-contained underwater breathing apparatus.
  • Performs inspections, repairs and maintenance on department turnout clothing, helmets, boots and related personal protective equipment.
  • Assists with the development and implementation of a computerized tracking system for all department equipment.
  • Performs metal fabrication and welding duties.
  • Purchases materials, supplies and equipment, as required.
  • Prepares materials and labour estimates, as required.
  • Ensures adherence to proper safety procedures and the use of proper protective equipment.
  • Works with Department staff to ensure all equipment and work meets applicable standards.
  • Works with crews in the performance of annual hose testing.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 education.
  • Five years’ related  experience in equipment inspection, repair, and maintenance within a safety-critical environment.
  • Possession of a valid Saskatchewan Class 5 Driver’s Licence.
  • Current driver’s abstract from SGI demonstrating a safe driving record.
  • Successful completion of, or ability to complete successfully within first year of employment, a department-approved  SCUBA & SCBA maintenance and repair certification program and ability to maintain that certification.
  • Successful completion of, or ability to complete successfully within first year of employment department approved:
    o    High pressure breathing air compressor installation, operation, and maintenance certification and the ability to maintain that certification.
    o    Compressed gas cylinder inspection certification and the ability to maintain that certification.
    o    Quantitative fit testing operator certification and the ability to maintain that certification.
  • Thorough knowledge of tools, equipment, construction methods, buildings systems operation and maintenance.
  • Knowledge and ability of carpentry & wood working skills.
  • Knowledge of NFPA standards and methods of servicing  fire fighting equipment.
  • Knowledge of  City of Saskatoon procurement purchasing procedures.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all department divisions and staff.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
  • Skill in the operation of a computer for equipment tracking.
  • Skill in servicing and maintaining personal protective equipment.
  • Knowledge and understanding of CSA C6, C6.1, C6.2, & C6.3 publications regarding compressed gas cylinders for safe filling, transport & end use.
  • Knowledge and understanding of CSA Z94.4 selection, use, & care of respirators.
  • Knowledge and understanding of CSA Z180.1 & Z275.2 standards for the purity of compressed breathing air for SCBA & SCUBA.
  • Physical ability to do the assigned work.

Weekly Hours: 40 

Salary Range: $83,704.08 to $116,069.76 CAD per annum (2023 rates)
