Job Summary

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, this position performs work involving design and project management in relation to lighting facilities. 

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Manages assigned staff; assigns work schedules, assesses staffing needs, identifies and pursues other resources if necessary. Plans and approves staff development. Conducts performance management and, as required, disciplinary action.
  • Designs, and oversees the design of, various electrical facilities pertaining to lighting.
  • Prepares work orders, plans, specifications and schedules for the supply of materials, equipment, consulting services and contractor services for construction projects.
  • Evaluates tenders and proposals and makes recommendations regarding the award of supply contracts.
  • Manages various projects and contracted services to ensure adherence to plans, terms, budgets and time schedules.
  • Coordinates project work with the requirements of other utilities, agencies and authorities having jurisdiction, including ensuring necessary jurisdiction approvals are obtained.
  • Establishes and maintains lighting construction standards. Ensures lighting integrity for maximum reliability.
  • Deals with contractors, major equipment and material suppliers and consultants regarding technical matters relating to the acquisition of materials, equipment and services and the provision of lighting services.
  • Directs the on-site inspection of work being carried out, ensuring compliance with construction standards and that safe work methods and procedures are observed.
  • Investigates customer requests and complaints in regard to lighting issues and recommends solutions.
  • Assists with preparing capital and operating budgets for lighting system upgrades and new installations. Analyzes costs from previous projects and prepares applications for new lighting projects.
  • Represents the Utility at various committees including the Urban Design Committee and the CPTED Committee. Also acts as the liaison with other departments and land developers for lighting.
  • Prepares a variety of verbal and written reports as required.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Possession of a university degree in electrical engineering
    OR
  • Graduation from a two-year, post-secondary electrical engineering technology course along with suitable experience.
  • Registered as a Professional Engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Saskatchewan or registered as a Professional Applied Science Technologist with Technology Professionals Saskatchewan, as appropriate.
  • Four to six years’ progressive responsibility and experience in an electrical utility is required.
  • Knowledge of the principles and techniques involved in the design, construction and general operation of electrical distribution, transmission, and lighting systems is required.
  • Possession of a valid Saskatchewan Class 5 Driver’s License and a current driver’s abstract from SGI demonstrating a safe driving record is required.
  • Ability to plan, direct, coordinate, monitor, motivate and evaluate the work of technical staff is required.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships is required.
  • Ability to work effectively in emergency situations is required.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, including the ability to prepare and present technical reports is required.

Weekly Hours: 36.67 

Salary Range: $86,211.84 to $101,175.60 CAD per annum (2023 rates)
