Job Summary
Under supervision of the Landscape Development Coordinator, this position prepares designs and contract documents and administers contracts for all park and public open space development undertaken by the Department.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Prepares designs, presentation drawings, working drawings, estimates, specifications and tender documents for landscape projects.
- Attends and participates at public meetings to gather public input, address park programming needs and deliver concept presentations.
- Carries out all aspects of project management for assigned landscape construction, including initiating and evaluating tenders, awarding contracts and supervising the development of urban parks and recreation projects.
- Assists with the development of Departmental policies, standards and guidelines pertaining to landscape design, construction and maintenance.
- Prepares feasibility studies and reports for park and open-space development projects.
- Coordinates Departmental projects being performed by consultants.
- Assists with the preparation of short- and long-range plans for the development of a comprehensive system of parks, recreation sites and public open spaces.
- Assists, and works with, other civic departments with regard to landscape-related issues, as assigned.
- Supports and promotes a safe and positive workplace culture through a variety of initiatives and activities.
- Supports and promotes the health and safety of employees in accordance with the Occupational Health & Safety Act & Regulations in addition to the City of Saskatoon’s Administrative Occupational Health & Safety Policies and departmental procedures.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education, Training and Experience Requirements
- Degree in landscape architecture.
- Three years' experience in all phases of landscape architecture, including design, preparation of working drawings and supervising development of urban parks and recreation projects.
- Registration, or eligibility for registration, in the Saskatchewan Association of Landscape Architects.
Knowledge, Abilities and Skills
- Knowledge of plant materials and their use in landscape design.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
- Ability to prepare presentations and working drawings of landscape projects.
- Ability to prepare specifications, estimates and reports.
- Ability to work as a member of an interdisciplinary team.
- Demonstrated skill in the use of AutoCad.
- Skill in developing grading plans, drainage systems and balanced cut/fill.
- Skill in the operation of a computer with word-processing and spreadsheet software (e.g. Microsoft Office).
Weekly Hours: 36.67
Salary Range: $39.09 to $43.09 CAD per hour (2023 rates. Negotiated increases of 3% for 2024, and 2.5% for 2025 will apply when applicable.)
