This position is a CUPE 859 position and will be filled in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Should it not be filled in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement, external candidates will be considered.
Job Summary
Under the supervision of the Supervisor, this position performs basic physical maintenance and repair work.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Performs a variety of manual labour duties for waste stream management including:

- Roll-out a high volume of fully loaded waste carts with unpleasant odours per shift from the designated collection location to the rear‑loader truck, in all weather conditions.
- Perform frequent step-up and step-down motions while working on the rear‑loader truck to collect waste.
- Receive batches of waste carts and unload them from trailers throughout different seasons of the year.
- Assist Utility Containers staff with transporting waste cart inventory to multiple storage facilities across the city.
- Organize cart inventory by correct size, type, and manufacturer.
- Sort and organize inventory components, including wheels, lids, axles, and fastening bolts or screws.
- Clean and sanitize reusable waste containers.
- Handling used waste cart inventory with unpleasant odours.
- Disassemble carts, salvage usable components, and breakdown damaged waste carts into smaller pieces.
- Remove and dispose of heavy debris resulting from illegal dumping and citywide messes. Clean trucks and related equipment.
- Maintain the cleanliness and overall upkeep of storage facilities and surrounding work areas.
- Complete all necessary records, including safety forms and internal tracking documentation.
- Ensures work activities are performed in accordance with Corporate safety policies, regulations and procedures.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education, Training and Experience Requirements:
- Grade 10 education.
- Six months experience in the operation of machinery and power tools. Experience working with waste collections and container breakdown would be an asset.
- Possession of a valid Saskatchewan Class 5 Driver's Licence. Class 3A or 1A would be an asset.
- Current driver abstract, from SGI, demonstrating a safe driving record.
Knowledge, Abilities and Skills:
- Demonstrated ability to regularly and consistently attend work to ensure effective operations and service delivery.
- Demonstrated knowledge of, and ability to follow all applicable procedures and policies.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Ability to communicate effectively and tactfully with the public and civic employees.
- Ability to work outdoors for extended periods and under all weather conditions as required by work assignments.
- Physical ability to perform the assigned duties, including pulling & pushing of heavy objects over rough terrain, stepping up and down in repetitive motions, climbing, twisting, reaching, and bending.
- Skid steer or forklift certification is considered an asset.
- Skill in the operation of small maintenance equipment, hand, and power tools in an efficient, responsible manner and in accordance with recognized procedures.

Hours Of Work:
Shift work and weekend work may be involved.
Weekly Hours: 40
Salary Range: $20.13 to $27.73 CAD per hour (2026 rates)
