The work you'll be involved in:

 

This is a fast-paced position in a senior executive leadership role. It is accountable for the development and delivery of community based and targeted recreation, sport, culture and parks programs, and services. Responsibilities will include:

 

  • Manages all facets of the Division.  Leads, both directly and indirectly, all matters relating to the provision and facilitation of the City’s Community Services including Building Standards, Community Standards, Parks, Planning & Development, Recreation & Community Development,  and other business lines as assigned.
  • Maintains strong social and business perspective on our community and provides strategic guidance related to the municipality’s role in urban development and neighbourhood sustainability, that contributes to a business-friendly environment. 
  • Addresses key contributors to quality of life such as: availability of sports, culture, recreation, heritage programs, special events, affordable housing, safety, social infrastructure, and the inclusion of all residents in community life.
  • Ensures all Departments within the Division prepare annual and long-term plans that are: evidence based, considerate of community needs, strategic, goal oriented, visibly implemented and within the resource capabilities of the corporation. 

What we're looking for:

 

Typically to be successful in this role, a person will have:

 

  • Degree in a related field; preferably supplemented by a Masters or other equivalent education or training.
  • A designation such as Certified Local Government Manager (CLGM), or certificate in Local Government Administration (LGA), or other professional designation. 
  • Ten years’ administration and management experience with five years experience leading multiple disciplines at a senior level.
  • Memberships in various associations such as the International Association of Municipal Administrators (ICMA), Canadian Parks and Recreation Association (CPRA), or other provincial recreation and parks associations etc.

Weekly Hours: 40
