Job Summary
This position prioritizes, delegates, and schedules fleet maintenance work, including providing work assignment and direction to a group of trades and non-trades responsible for maintenance and repair of automotive vehicles, large trucks and heavy construction equipment.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Supervises assigned staff; assists with hiring, establishes work assignments, assesses staffing needs, identifies and pursues other resources if necessary. Plans and approves staff development. Assists with performance management and, when required, disciplinary action.
- Manages, coordinates and schedules the activities of employees who repair and maintain automotive vehicles, large trucks and heavy construction equipment.
- Prioritizes unplanned and scheduled work to meet service level requirements and coordinate work activities with internal customer groups, and within policy approve repair decisions and estimates.
- Ensure completion of unplanned work, scheduled preventative maintenance, new unit up-fit and end of life unit disposal, and repair/maintenance records for all vehicles and equipment.
- Monitors repair costs to ensure fiscal responsibility and control spending.
- Supports and promotes the health and safety of employees and the general public in accordance with the Saskatchewan Employment Act, Saskatchewan Health Regulations and Standards, Occupational Health & Safety Regulations and the City of Saskatoon’s administrative Occupational Health & Safety policies and departmental procedures. Maintains and monitors programs which affect public and employee health and safety.

Qualifications
Education, Training & Experience Requirements
- Grade 12 education.
- Possession of a valid provincial or inter-provincial Journeyperson designation in the applicable trade as it relates to City of Saskatoon fleet maintenance and management. Possession of a recognized Apprenticeship Certificate is preferred.
- Four to six years' progressively responsible supervisory experience in large truck and heavy construction equipment fleet maintenance and repair.
Knowledge, Abilities & Skills
- Demonstrated ability to apply management principles and techniques to a large and varied fleet operation.
- Ability to plan, direct and coordinate the work of subordinates.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with user departments and suppliers.
Weekly Hours: 36.67
Salary Range: $86,211.84 to $101,175.60 CAD per annum (2023 rates)
