Job Summary

This position performs professional architectural work involving preparation of studies and the review of designs, drawings and specifications for the construction and renovation of municipal buildings. The position supervises department staff to coordinate current and future plans for the operations and use of facilities and their associated program space.  This position evaluates and facilitates the establishment of corporate standards as they relate to facility programs.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Manages and coordinates building design projects for civic facilities including proposal, budget, program definition, design assessment, working drawing review, bid administration, contract administration and site reviews.  Acts as liaison with authorities having jurisdiction and other civic departments.
  • Prepares and coordinates, in conjunction with user agencies, capital and operating cost estimates, program definition, design criteria, life cycle cost parameters and site-specific information of design programs for assigned projects.
  • Develops and coordinates terms of reference for prime and sub-consultants.  Coordinates all formal agreements and contracts.
  • Coordinates and works within interdepartmental team project endeavours.
  • Attends committee meetings as required by the projects assigned.
  • Reviews drawings and specifications for assigned projects. 
  • Conducts periodic reviews of construction work in progress, and coordinates the execution of the contract for assigned projects.
  • Coordinates, in a secondary role as a facility planner, building assessments and maintenance replacement planning for assigned projects.
  • Coordinates building assessments to ensure compliance with the organization’s established standards.
  • Supports and promotes a safe and positive workplace culture through a variety of initiatives and activities.
  • Supports and promotes the health and safety of employees in accordance with the Occupational Health & Safety Act & Regulations in addition to the City of Saskatoon’s administrative Occupational Health & Safety policies and departmental procedures.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Architecture.
  • Registration, or eligibility for registration, as a Professional Architect in the Province of Saskatchewan.
  • Three to five years' diversified professional architectural experience.
  • Thorough knowledge of modern building construction, methods and materials.
  • Knowledge of and interest in facility planning.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a broad range of individuals, agencies and representative officials.
  • Ability to review drawings and specifications as required for assigned projects.
  • Skill in the understanding and identification of Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) principles in the review and assessment of civic facilities.
     

Weekly Hours: Approximately 18 hours per week

Salary Range: $95,473.92 to $112,058.88 CAD per annum (2023 rates). Salary will be pro-rated for part time.
