This position is a CUPE 47 position and will be filled in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Should it not be filled in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement, external candidates will be considered.

Job Summary

Under supervision of the Building and Grounds Foreman, or Remote Site Supervisor as assigned by the Maintenance Manager or Operations Manager, this position operates a dump truck, front end loader, and other heavy equipment as well as participating in other assigned buildings and grounds duties for the Water or Wastewater Treatment Plant, Reservoirs, grit receiving facilities, and Lift Stations.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assists with building and grounds maintenance including snow removal in the winter and grounds maintenance in the summer.
  • Performs duties of Building and Grounds Labourer, as required.
  • Performs routine plant operation and maintenance as required.
  • Performs minor repairs and maintenance checks on vehicles and heavy-duty equipment.
  • Operates a dump truck , front end loader, and skid steer.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education, Training and Experience Requirements:

  • Grade 12 education.
  • One year’s experience operating a dump truck, loader, grader, bulldozer, forklift, bobcat and/or other heavy equipment.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid, recognized first aid certificate.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain within one month of hire, a valid Industrial Vegetation Commercial Pesticide Applicator License.
  • Current driver’s abstract from SGI demonstrating a safe driving record.


Knowledge, Abilities and Skills:

  • Knowledge of practices related to the care and operation of equipment and materials used in building and grounds maintenance.
  • Knowledge of safety procedures associated with working with hazardous products including knowledge of confined space procedures and WHMIS.
  • Ability to work with hazardous chemicals such as ammonium hydroxide, lime and chlorine.
  • Ability to perform duties with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and with all internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to operate large equipment such as forklifts and tractors.
  • Ability to perform duties in a safe and efficient manner while maintaining a clean work site.
  • Knowledge of equipment limitations.
  • Ability to perform minor service maintenance on front-end loaders, graders, tandem trucks and other equipment.
  • Ability to operate heavy-duty equipment.
  • Ability to understand and execute oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to deal tactfully and effectively with other employees and the public.
  • Physical ability to perform the assigned duties.

 

Weekly Hours: 38.75 

Salary Range: $58,442.64 CAD  per annum (2023 rates)
