Job Summary

Under the supervision of the Parks Division Training Coordinator, this position assists in the development, implementation, and maintenance of various training programs and manuals related to Parks equipment. The trainer assumes a leading role in improving operating standards, safe driving, and operator skills.

Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Conducts classroom and one on one practical training for Parks Maintenance handheld and power mobile equipment. 
  2. Assesses and reports on employee equipment operation competency through field observation. 
  3. Delivers training courses, in classroom and provides field instruction related to equipment operation.
  4. Assess the effectiveness of formal training programs for equipment operation skill level to ensure compliance and due diligence. 
  5. Participates in training sessions offered by vehicle and equipment factory representatives.
  6. Provides one-on-one practical training where employees are experiencing driving and operating problems identified through incident reports.
  7. Supports and promotes a safe and positive workplace culture through a variety of initiatives and activities.
  8. Supports and promotes the health and safety of employees and the general public in accordance with the Saskatchewan Employment Act, Saskatchewan Health Regulations and Standards, Occupational Health & Safety Regulations and the City of Saskatoon’s administrative Occupational Health & Safety policies and departmental procedures. Maintains and monitors programs which affect public health and safety.
  9. Performs other related duties as assigned.
     

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 education.
  • Minimum of five years’ experience with Parks equipment operation, and maintenance.
  • Experience in formal program design, coordination, presentation, assessment, and training.
  • Possession of Powered Mobile Equipment Safety Evaluator Certification.
  • Possession of a valid Saskatchewan Class 5 Drivers Licence and the ability to use a personal vehicle for travel between worksites.
  • Current driver’s abstract from SGI demonstrating a safe driving record.
  • Successful completion of a recognized “Train the Trainer” and “Basic Training Techniques”.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of provincial labour and safety legislation related to vehicle and equipment operation.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively; orally, including public speaking, and in writing. 
  • Demonstrated ability to design, coordinate and conduct training programs utilizing adult learning techniques, and evaluate the competency of training participants.
  • Proficiency in the use of computers including Microsoft Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, and Excel. Experience working with a Learning Management System would be an asset.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of parks maintenance operations and the equipment that is used to support maintenance service provision.

Weekly Hours: 40 

Salary Range: $29.68 to $32.72 CAD per hour (2023 rates)
