Job Summary

Under the supervision of the Supervisor VI (Sewer Operations), this position operates the sewer cleaner truck and the harben truck to conduct required sewer maintenance. This is a safety sensitive position.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Operates sewer cleaning machines and other equipment related to sewer maintenance.
  • Directs and trains staff assigned to assist in the operation of sewer cleaner truck and harben truck. 
  • Performs routine safety checks and servicing of equipment such as fluid levels, greasing and other minor maintenance adjustments.
  • Transports machine and equipment to and from work sites.
  • Inspects and cleans manholes, chambers, sewer mains, superpipes manually, or otherwise, as required.
  • Operates pumps and miscellaneous equipment as required.
  • Installs road warning signs and barricades in accordance with approved standards.
  • Responds to enquiries and concerns from the public and contractors.
  • Performs repairs to sewer and water equipment as required.
  • Maintains accurate and detailed records of work performed 
  • Performs the duties of an Equipment Operator VIII as required.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Considerable knowledge of the principles of equipment operation and maintenance.
  • Considerable knowledge of the operating procedures and practices for all equipment and tools of the sewer main maintenance trade, including industrial vacuum and high pressure water jetting equipment.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate sewer cleaner truck and harben equipment.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Demonstrated ability to read and understand engineering drawings.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, including recording data.
  • Ability to perform confined entries complete with necessary fall protection equipment and air quality monitoring equipment. 
  • Physical ability to perform the assigned duties, including outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.
     

Education, Training and Experience Requirements: 

  • Grade 12 education or equivalent.
  • One Year related experience in the operation of similar water and sewer equipment or a certificate from an approved course in sewer operations. 
  • Level 1  Water Distribution Operator Certification from the Saskatchewan Operator Certification Board would be considered an asset.
  • Level 2 Waste Water Collection Operator Certification from the Saskatchewan Operator Certification Board would be considered an asset.
  • Possession of a valid Saskatchewan Class 3A Driver's Licence.
  • Current driver’s abstract from SGI demonstrating a safe driving record. 
  • Successful completion of a recognized skid-steer loader operator safety training certification program.
  • Must comply with all safety related requirements. 

Additional Requirements

Shift work, weekend work and stand-by are involved.

Weekly Hours: 40 

Salary Range: $29.07 to $29.83 CAD per hour (2023 rates)
