Job Summary

Under supervision of the Maintenance Planner, this position involves skilled electrical work in the installation, renovation, maintenance and repair of electrical equipment.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Installs, maintains and repairs a wide variety of electrical equipment, including lighting, heating controls, fire alarms and emergency power.
  • Performs preventative maintenance, cleaning, repair and replacement of parts. Determines maintenance schedules for new and existing equipment.
  • Prepares sketches for as-built drawings. In conjunction with electrical consultants, reviews, and recommends changes to, blueprints and specifications for a variety of electrical projects. Designs modifications and installations in existing facilities.
  • Supervises and inspects the work of subordinate staff and electrical contractors and conducts project evaluations to ensure compliance with construction standards, building codes and electrical standards. Determines required trades staff for projects.
  • Supports and promotes a safe and positive workplace culture through a variety of initiatives and activities.
  • Supports and promotes the health and safety of employees in accordance with the Occupational Health & Safety Act & Regulations in addition to the City of Saskatoon’s administrative Occupational Health & Safety policies and departmental procedures.
  • Initiates and signs electrical permits with the Provincial Electrical Inspections Division.
  • Prepares material and labour cost estimates for electrical projects and electrical maintenance budget, including researching, monitoring and initiating purchase requisitions. Orders, expedites and purchases electrical supplies. Initiates and completes electrical work orders.
  • Provides instruction and training in electrical techniques, as required.
  • Ensures adherence to proper safety procedures and use of proper protective equipment.
  • Coordinates the transportation of material, equipment and staff to and from job sites.
  • Performs other related duties, including non-trade duties, as assigned.

Qualifications

Education, Training And Experience Requirements

  • Grade 12 education.

  • Possession of a valid Saskatchewan Journeyman Electrician Certificate.

  • Three years’ current journeyman experience in the construction or industrial plant field.

  • Possession of a valid Saskatchewan Class 5 Driver’s Licence.

  • Current driver’s abstract from SGI demonstrating a safe driving record.

  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid first aid certificate.

 

Knowledge, Abilities And Skills

  • Thorough knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code and the Saskatchewan Supplement and of Programmable Logic Control Systems.

  • Knowledge of standard methods, materials, tools and equipment of the electrical trade.

  • Knowledge of the operation of pneumatic controls systems, and direct experience in the operation of electrical and electronic controls, fire alarms and emergency power systems.

  • Knowledge of direct digital control systems.

  • Knowledge of safe operation and maintenance of equipment and tools.

  • Ability to interpret blueprints, plans and specifications.

  • Ability to plan and organize work.

  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.

  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

  • Physical ability to perform the assigned duties.

  • Skill in the operation of a computer.

Acceptable current Criminal Record Check (CRC) and Vulnerable Sector Search (VSS) upon offer of employment.

Weekly Hours: 40 

Salary Range: $36.53 to $40.28 CAD per annum (2025 rates)
