Job Summary
Duties & Responsibilities
- Determines water and sewer capacity requirements based on known land uses.
- Designs pipe grades, elevations, sizes, bedding requirements, and the location of all associated infrastructure based on City of Saskatoon specifications and engineering practices.
- Designs storm water retention ponds including all associated infrastructure.
- Develops detailed area grading designs for new neighbourhoods.
- Determines roadway capacity requirements based on known land uses.
- Performs geometric design of roadways, including interchange and at-grade intersection design based on Transportation Association of Canada’s “Geometric Design Guide for Canadian Roads” and City of Saskatoon specifications.
- Acts as project management of consulting contracts related to functional planning and detailed design of water, sewer, and roadway systems.
- Prepares written and oral reports in response to enquiries of City Council, Committees of City of Council, and senior administration.
- Prepares and administers capital budgets.
- Manages and directs staff assigned to area of responsibility.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education, Training and Experience Requirements
- Degree in civil engineering and registered or eligible for registration as a professional engineer with APEGS OR registered as an engineering licensee with appropriate scope of practice with APEGS.
- Four to six year’s progressively responsible design experience in the field of water, sewer, and roadway design.
- Possession of a valid Saskatchewan Class 5 Driver’s License.
- Current driver’s abstract from SGI demonstrating a safe driving record.
Knowledge, Abilities and Skills
- Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of design engineering in an urban environment.
- Knowledge of generally accepted accounting, budgeting, and financial procedures.
- Ability to prepare and present complex technical reports, both verbal and written.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with civic staff, officials, representatives, or other agencies and the general public.
Weekly Hours: 36.67
Salary Range: $86,211.84 to $101,175.60 CAD per annum (2023 rates)
