This position is a CUPE 59 position and will be filled in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Should it not be filled in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement, external candidates will be considered.

Job Summary

Under supervision of the Utility Systems Manager, this position will be responsible for the daily operation and monitoring of the Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) network.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Performs daily analysis of AMI network data to ensure the overall health of the network is maintained and any performance issues are addressed.  
  • Provides recommendations on identified areas of improvement.  
  • Provides reports to management regarding the results, as required.
  • Coordinates with other business units, internally and externally, to perform preventative maintenance of the AMI network, including monitoring/verifying smart meter data is processed, acting on meter communication errors, and reporting on operational alarms.
  • Identifies meter and collector issues and creates/monitors a tracking system for these issues.
  • Investigates data collection exceptions (i.e. meters not meeting success criteria) and identifies assets in need of improvement.  
  • Provides direction to operational areas to resolve identified problems.
  • Coordinates and ensures the completion of certain aspects of AMI operations, including adding, removing and modifying meters.
  • Tests new versions of firmware, and other related updates, prior to deployment.
  • Analyzes success rate readings to ensure vendor service level agreements are being met.
  • Develops and maintains documentation regarding AMI processes and procedures.
  • Performs the duties of the Data Analyst (MDM), as required.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education, Training and Experience Requirements:

  • Graduation from a two-year, post-secondary, business administration, information systems, business analysis or related program.
  • Three years’ related experience in utility billing and metering.

 

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills:

  • Considerable knowledge of utility billing and metering principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of the techniques, methods and processes used to evaluate, review, implement and modify computerized systems.
  • Knowledge of SQL language and SQL statement best practices.
  • Ability to analyze data, identify underlying issues/problems and recommend required changes.
  • Ability to effectively handle multiple, concurrent demands while maintaining a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with co-workers, representatives of other agencies and the public.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing, including the ability to prepare and present reports.
  • Skill in the use of a computer using the Microsoft Office suite.

Weekly Hours: 36.67 

Salary Range: $72,362.64 to $79,779.84 CAD per annum (2026 rates)
