Job Summary

Reporting to the Facilities Superintendent, the Custodial Supervisor is responsible for supervising and performing duties related to cleaning in various facilities, this position oversees staff assigned to cleaning ensuring tasks are completed efficiently and to high standards.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Directs, inspects, and performs the work of staff involved in cleaning and building systems operation and maintenance work in a facility.
  • Train on site staff in custodial operations, equipment maintenance, and best practices to ensure consistency and efficiency. Assesses and arranges for equipment maintenance and repairs. 
  • Perform building and operations checks, identifying maintenance needs and ensuring facility safety and functionality.
  • Support and promote a safe and positive workplace culture through various initiatives and activities.
  • Supports and promotes the health and safety of employees in accordance with the Occupational Health & Safety Act & Regulations in addition to the City of Saskatoon’s Administrative Occupational Health & Safety Policies and department procedures. 
  • Provides on site supervision of custodial staff in coordination with the Resident Building Operator. 
  • Performs pool water quality tests, calibrates equipment, and as required, adjusts chemical levels. 
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education, Training and Experience Requirements

  • Grade 10 education.
  • Possession of a valid Fireman's Certificate.
  • Possession of or ability to obtain after date of hire, the Saskatchewan Swimming Pool Operators course, confined space, aerial device, and Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus certification.
  • Two years’ related cleaning and maintenance experience, including one years supervisory experience.
  • Possession of a valid Saskatchewan Class 5 Driver's Licence.
  • Current driver’s abstract from SGI demonstrating a safe driving record.
     

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills

  • Proficiency in standard methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in both building systems maintenance and operation, as well as in the cleaning and maintenance of facilities.
  • Capacity to provide effective guidance and direction to staff, ensuring tasks are carried out efficiently and to high standards.
  • Ability to understand and execute oral and written instructions.
  • Aptitude for working independently and adhering to work schedules with minimal supervision.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, enabling tactful and courteous interactions with the public and fellow civic employees.
  • Physical capability to perform assigned duties effectively.
  • Demonstrated expertise in the operation, maintenance, and application of cleaning and maintenance equipment and products, including proficiency in building control systems specific to aquatic facilities.

Requires Security Check

Acceptable current Criminal Record Check (CRC) and Vulnerable Sector Search (VSS) upon offer of employment.

Additional Requirements

Shift work and weekend work is involved.
 

Weekly Hours: 40 

Salary Range: $27.44 to $30.25 CAD per hour  (2025 rates)
