Job Summary
Under supervision of the Body Shop Supervisor, this position maintains and repairs transit vehicle and equipment bodies.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Performs collision repair and refinishing.
- Performs checks, routines and procedures required to assure compliance with system standards, applicable laws and safety regulations.
- Refurbishes bodies, seats and interiors of vehicles and equipment.
- Reports observed defects and potential problem areas encountered while performing repairs.
- Makes minor repair and replacement decisions in accordance with system preventive maintenance programs and Saskatchewan Government Insurance approved estimates.
- Provides reports, and other data as required, to properly record the work performed and the condition of the vehicle or component.
- Uses tools, shop equipment and materials safely, effectively and economically.
- Provides, and participates in, on-the-job training as required by maintenance staff to ensure that work is performed in an efficient and safe manner.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Grade 12 education.
- Possession of a valid Saskatchewan Journeyperson Motor Vehicle Body Repairer certificate.
- Five years' experience as a Journeyperson including experience with MIG welders, painting and refinishing. Experience in the repair of aluminium panels and sub-framing on monocoque style construction of buses and coaches would be an asset.
- Possession of a valid Saskatchewan Class 5A Driver's Licence. (1A would be an asset.)
- Considerable knowledge of the methods, procedures, equipment and materials used in transit vehicle body repair and maintenance.
- Demonstrated ability to work with a minimum of supervision.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
- Demonstrated ability to learn simple upholstering techniques.
- Demonstrated ability to work courteously and effectively with other civic employees, the public and suppliers.
- Physical ability to perform the assigned duties.
Additional Requirements
Shift work, weekend and statutory holiday work may be involved.
A driver’s abstract and proof of grade 12 are required with application.
Weekly Hours: 40
Salary Range: $38.16 to $40.31 CAD per hour (2023 rates)
