Job Summary
Under supervision of the Superintendent, this position is responsible for supervising and supporting shop employees, operations, and actively participates in regular Journeyperson duties as required.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Assigns work and daily tasks, provides staff supervision, and as required, assists staff with their daily duties.
- Provides leadership and mentorship to employees and supports staff development.
- Consults and coordinates with internal and external stakeholders via verbal, phone, etc regarding items such as repairs, parts ordering and equipment status.
- Initiates and approves work orders and maintenance invoices. Approves payments of invoices.
- Coordinates and oversees completion of repairs and preventative maintenance inspections and other related inspections of the fleet.
- Collaborates with Superintendent to develop and implement an effective preventative maintenance program.
- Provides support and direction for mechanical repairs, as required.
- Instructs operators and supervisors regarding the safe and efficient operation and service of equipment.
- Communicates and reviews shop operations with Superintendent.
- Assists with decisions to purchase new and replacement equipment.
- Supports and promotes the health and safety of employees and the general public in accordance with the Saskatchewan Employment Act, Saskatchewan Health Regulations and Standards, Occupational Health & Safety Regulations and the City of Saskatoon’s administrative Occupational Health & Safety policies and departmental procedures. Maintains and monitors programs which affect public and employee health and safety.

Qualifications
Education, Training and Experience Requirements
- Grade 12 education.
- Possession of a valid provincial or inter-provincial Journeyperson designation in Automotive, Truck and Transport, or Heavy-Duty mechanics. Possession of a recognized Apprenticeship Certificate is preferred.
- Five years' journeyperson related experience in an applicable trade, including three years’ supervisory experience.
- Possession of a valid Saskatchewan Class 5 Driver's Licence.
- Current driver’s abstract from SGI demonstrating a safe driving record.
- Possession of a valid first aid certificate, training provided upon hire.
- Possession of W.H.I.M.I.S. training/certificate, training provided upon hire.
Knowledge, Abilities and Skills
- Thorough knowledge of the operation and use of current diagnostic tools and equipment.
- Considerable knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade.
- Considerable knowledge of electronic engines, electronic transmissions, fuel systems, brake systems and associated components.
- Ability to deliver proficient customer service and carry out responsibilities of the position in accordance with the corporate values.
- Demonstrate ability to delegate work, schedule and supervise staff.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing and demonstrate ability to understand service manuals and bulletins.
- Demonstrate ability to work with minimal supervision, individually or as a team member.
- Physical ability to perform the assigned duties.
- Skill in the operation of a computer utilizing Microsoft office suite, SAP and other industry specific software.

Shift work and weekend work may be involved.
Weekly Hours: 40
Salary Range: $86,215.20 to $95,051.52 CAD per annum (2026 rates)
