This position is a CUPE 59 position and will be filled in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Should it not be filled in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement, external candidates will be considered.
Job Summary
Under the supervision of the City Archivist this position is responsible for providing professional archival services and supporting the operation of the City Archives through the delivery of reference, collections management, preservation and outreach activities.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Carries out the acquisition, appraisal, arrangement, description, preservation and processing of physical and digital archival collections in accordance with established archival standards and practices.
- Assists in the management of digital archival collections, including metadata creation, digitization activities, digital preservation processes and the maintenance of access systems.
- Maintains archival information systems, databases and descriptive records, including the provincial MemorySask database and other archival technologies.
- Processes records transferred to the archives and identifies at-risk material.
- Assists with the preservation of archival collections through environmental monitoring and management, collection care and preservation activities for both physical and digital records.
- Provides specialized archival reference and research services to City staff, researchers and the public, including responding to inquiries, conducting research, interpreting archival records and facilitating access to physical and digital archival collections.
- Assists with public awareness and outreach initiatives, including exhibits, educational programming, digital content, and community engagement activities.
- Assists with the development and application of procedures and the continued refinement of best practices in all areas relating to the archival function.
- Assists with long-term planning for the City’s archives.
- Participates in continuing education and training with respect to standards, best practices and new developments within the archival community.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Masters in archival studies with one year of related archival experience
OR - Degree in history, humanities, or social sciences with three years’ directly related archival experience.
- Familiarity with current trends in Canadian Archival theory and practice including the Rules for Archival Description (RAD)
- Knowledge of legislation pertaining to the management of municipal records.
- Demonstrated ability to use computer applications, including automated information systems and databases.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
- Demonstrated ability to recognize and solve problems and assess priorities effectively.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships at all levels of the organization and with external contacts and to respond effectively to customer needs.
- Ability to take initiative and be self-motivated within the work environment.

Weekly Hours: 36.67
Salary Range: $75,132.24 to $82,833.60 CAD per annum (2026 rates)
