Job Summary

This position is responsible for long-range planning, implementation and development policy/operating guidelines and leadership to the Logistics Division Responsibilities include technology research, and the implementation of asset management principles for fleet and apparatus, protective equipment, uniforms, and facility planning, involving procurement, preventative maintenance, and disposal of assets.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Management of the Logistics Division including maintenance and mechanical and all department facilities and grounds.
  • Manages assigned staff; hires, assigns work schedules, assesses staffing needs, identifies and pursues other resources if necessary and performs layoff and recall. Plans and approves staff development. Conducts performance management and, when required, disciplinary action.
  • Manages the procurement and maintenance of apparatus, fleet vehicles, protective equipment, fire service related technology, office equipment and SFD clothing. 
  • Manages facilities and property maintenance to ensure conformity with the City of Saskatoon comprehensive Building Maintenance Program.
  • Leads technology initiatives that enhance organization efficiency and effectiveness. This includes staying abreast of emerging technologies, assessing their potential impact, and integrating these technologies into the Department.
  • Plans, prepares, reviews, and implements the annual Capital and Operating Budgets for the Logistics Division. 
  • Manages the annual reserves for large equipment, small vehicles, operating equipment, and SFD clothing in conformity with City of Saskatoon policy and procedure.
  • Responds to major emergency incidents as part of the Department’s Emergency Incident Management Protocol.
  • Represents the Department and the City of Saskatoon with other agencies in either government, civic, or private sectors. 
  • Represents the Department at community association meetings and Business Improvement District meetings and maintains an effective Department involvement in the core neighbourhoods to meet the needs of the community.
  • Acts as a member of the Management/Labour Committee with I.A.F.F. Local 80.
  • Act as a member of the joint Management/Union Occupational Health and Safety Committee.
  • Assumes the duties of the Fire Chief/General Manager of the Department when required to do so.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Degree in commerce, business administration or a related field. Graduation from Dalhousie University Certificate in Fire Service Administration, or related Fire Service Management Certificate programs would be an asset.
  • Seven to nine years’ related emergency services experience including experience in emergency operations (fire suppression, pre-hospital emergency medical care, technical rescue, and dangerous goods mitigation).
  • Experience in project management of complex projects and with asset management would be considered assets.
  • NFPA 1021 Fire Officer Level II (IFSAC/Pro Board accredited). 
  • Possession of a valid Saskatchewan Class 5 Driver’s Licence.
  • Current driver’s abstract demonstrating a safe driving record. 
  • Successful completion of corporate leadership training as provided.
  • Knowledge of Department functions and responsibilities.
  • Knowledge of Emergency Measures and Emergency Preparedness.
  • Knowledge of the City of Saskatoon Fire and Protective Services Bylaw 7990, Property Maintenance and Nuisance Abatement Bylaw 8175, and the Saskatchewan Fire Safety Act.
  • Knowledge of supervisory and management principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of project management. Ability to resolve complex issues in a multi-disciplinary environment including conflict management, work program and on-schedule project delivery.
  • Ability to adapt to changing technology.
  • Ability to present reports and information to City of Saskatoon Standing committees and to City Council. Demonstrated ability to deal effectively with people in a unionized environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively orally and writing, including the ability to prepare and present reports.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with assigned staff, civic officials, representatives of other agencies and the public.

Weekly Hours: 40 

Salary Range: $146,621.20 to $170,790.16 CAD per annum (2025 rates)
