This position is a CUPE 59 position and will be filled in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Should it not be filled in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement, external candidates will be considered.
Job Summary
Under supervision of the Accounting & Revenue Control Manager, this position processes accounting transactions. Duties will be performed with honesty and integrity, and in a manner that is helpful, respectful, and courteous.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Completes complex bank and general ledger reconciliations for various sites, including investigating and clearing outstanding and unusual items.
- Processes and reviews corrections and adjustments in the Department business systems. Reviews daily balancing and refund transactions.
- Processes and maintains data related to revenue and accounts payable accounts in accordance with established policies and procedures. Produces related reports and reconciliations, including preparing monthly revenue reports and general ledger revenue transfers.
- Conducts surprise cash counts at decentralized facilities according to established procedures.
- Investigates enquiries from employees, management and external agencies, regarding revenue and accounts payable.
- Responds to enquiries related to established policies and procedures.
- Assists with identifying accounting problems.
- Assists with the review, development, and implementation of controls, procedures, and forms.
- Performs other related duties, including projects, as assigned.
Qualifications
Education, Training and Experience Requirements:
- Grade 12 education.
- Successful completion of a one year post-secondary business-related program plus or including:
- Introductory Accounting 1
- Introductory Accounting 2
- Intermediate Accounting 1
- Intermediate Accounting 2
- Management Accounting 1
- Management Accounting 2
- Commercial Law
- Five years' related experience.
Knowledge, Abilities and Skills:
- Thorough knowledge of accounting procedures including methods of handling, receipting and recording revenue, in particular from point-of-sale transactions.
- Demonstrated understanding of audit standards and practices.
- Considerable knowledge of business English.
- Knowledge of modern office practices, procedures, systems, and office equipment
- Ability to maintain moderately complex accounting records and prepare account reconciliations and reports.
- Ability to develop and maintain Excel spreadsheets at an intermediate level of complexity.
- Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
- Ability to plan and execute responsibilities with a focus on continuous improvement.
- Ability to understand, apply, and make decisions in accordance with, established policies and procedures.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
- Ability to coach and/or train non-accounting clerical staff at decentralized facilities.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision in a team environment.
- Ability to solve problems independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to maintain sustained attention to detail and work within deadlines.
- Ability to make arithmetic calculations with speed and accuracy.
Weekly Hours: 36.67
Salary Range: $66,821.28 to $73,669.92 CAD per annum (2026 rates)
