Job Summary

Under supervision of the Accounting Coordinator, this position performs coordination, control and reporting functions associated with transit revenues and performs other accounting, and administrative support duties.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Performs control and reporting functions associated with transit revenues.  
  • Participates in financial systems design, documentation, and implementation.
  • Assists with the preparation of operating revenue budgets and projections.
  • Coordinates the processing of fare-box revenues, including the maintenance of related equipment and supplies, and the monitoring of the fare-box inventory.  Prepares the bank deposits and related reports.
  • Maintains sales and inventory records of transit fare media for the Customer Service Centre and Transit vendors, including processing orders, preparing consignment distribution and billing.
  • Maintains control lists, to ensure credit checks, contract renewal, and letters of credit as required for all Transit vendors, in liaison with the corporate revenue.
  • Identifies and processes adjustments in stand-alone systems.
  • Solves problems and answers questions related to revenue control.
  • Prepares month end journal entries based on revenue transactions that are processed in stand-alone systems.
  • Responsible for the accounts receivable functions in the SAP system, including accurate preparation and distribution of invoices.
  • Prepare and/or reviews bank and general ledger account reconciliations and investigates and corrects discrepancies.
  • Performs other accounting,  and administrative support duties, as required and assigned.

Qualifications

  • Successful completion of a recognized two-year, post-secondary accounting program
  • Five years’ related experience, including  financial systems design, documentation, implementation and auditing.
  • Knowledge with ERP systems such as SAP or similar system would be an asset
  • Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of accounting and financial systems controls.
  • Considerable knowledge of modern office practices, procedures, systems, and office equipment
  • Considerable knowledge of method of handling, receipting, and recording revenue, relating to point-of-sale transactions.
  • Ability to prepare and present accounting and financial reports.
  • Ability to solve problems both independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and vendors.
  • Ability to negotiate agreements by involving stakeholders, dialogue, resolving problems and building consensus.
  • Ability to express ideas and concepts effectively orally and in writing.
  • Ability to maintain moderately complex records and perform accounting reconciliations, with a high level of attention to detail.
  • Ability to make decisions in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Ability to coach and/or train non-accounting clerical staff in decentralized operations
  • Proficient in using computer applications including word processing, spreadsheet, and database software to efficiently manage and analyze data.

Weekly Hours: 37.67

Salary Range: $74,413.44 to $78,349.92 CAD per annum (2025 rates)
