Job Summary

This position manages all aspects of the Access Transit Section.

The work you would be involved in:

  • Directs Access Transit operations including service levels, impact of traffic congestion, road conditions, weather and schedules, and ensures changes are implemented as required.
  • Directs the development and implementation of Access Transit policies and practices that govern high-level service standards, Human Rights compliancy and CSA standards.
  • Prepares and controls Capital and Operating budgets for the Access Transit Section, including government funding opportunities.
  • Prepares short- and long-term plans for service standards, levels of service, staffing levels and fleet maintenance and replacement, including authorizing equipment and service contracts or tenders.
  • Works collaboratively with Fixed Route Transit operations, Fleet and Maintenance, Stores and purchasing to make decisions relative to the Access Transit Operation.
  • Develops and coordinates delivery of the Travel Training program
  • Assists with the development of operating procedures, manuals and directives for the Access Transit section and ensures compliance with established procedures and directives.
  • Manages assigned staff, hires, assigns work schedules, assesses staffing needs, identifies and pursues other resources if necessary.  Plans and approves staff development.  Responsible for performance management and disciplinary action when required.
  • Directs investigations and resolutions of all accidents, customer service incidents and complaints in the Access Transit section and ensures appropriate reports are written and associated records are maintained.  Participates in accident adjudication. 
  • Participates in occupational health and safety programs, return to work programs and modified work programs, and other related operations committees.
  • Prepares and presents reports and recommendations pertaining to Access Transit.
  • Responds to enquiries from City Council and other civic officials related to Access Transit matters.  
  • Participates in Advisory Committee, public consultation and other community meetings concerning special needs transportation issues.
  • Performs the duties of the Director, Transit as required.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

What we are looking for:

  • Degree in Commerce or related discipline.
  • Seven to nine years’ progressively responsible experience in transit operations, fleet, including accessible transportation delivery, financial management and supervision of staff.
  • Current driver’s abstract from SGI demonstrating a safe driving record.
  • Knowledge of the transportation needs of persons with disabilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public, civic officials and co-workers.
  • Demonstrated ability to solve complex problems and manage conflicts in a positive and timely manner.
  • Ability to successfully manage, lead and empower staff to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Ability to develop, present and adhere to budgets that achieve desired results.
  • Ability to investigate accidents and incidents thoroughly.
  • Competent in the use of MS Office suite

Weekly Hours: 40 

Salary Range: $111,094.08 to $130,535.28 CAD per annum (2025 rates)
