Job Summary

Under the supervision of the Drafting Supervisor, this position prepares drawings, sketches, data and other information for Municipal Engineering projects.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Prepares drawings and provides advanced drafting design services for roadways, interchanges, water and sewer systems, and facilities using City standards and applicable guidelines.
  • Performs moderately complex mathematical calculations in the provision of design drafting services. Uses a variety of source documents, including field survey notes, plans and sketches, to produce construction drawings and support data for field work.
  • Assists with scheduling, assigning, training and reviewing work of subordinate staff.
  • Obtains field information and processes data into a format that can be used by others for various aspects of municipal engineering work.
  • Assists with the development of and maintains digital standards of file management and civic digital libraries. Files and distributes department plans.
  • Responds to enquiries and provides information from plans and records to staff and the public in person, by correspondence and by telephone.
  • Prepares and files as built drawings. 
  • Participates in technological training and advancement initiatives, as required.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Graduation from a two-year, post-secondary, drafting technology program.
  • Certification, or eligible for certification, as an Applied Science Technologist by the Saskatchewan Applied Science Technologists and Technicians. 
  • Five years’ related experience in design drafting in urban roadways or water and sewer systems.
  • Possession of a valid Saskatchewan Class 5 Driver’s Licence.
  • Current driver’s abstract from SGI demonstrating a safe driving record.
  • Knowledge of engineering drafting terminology, practices, techniques and equipment.
  • Knowledge of construction, engineering and survey techniques and practices.
  • Knowledge of civic and Departmental policies and regulations.
  • Ability to interpret maps, plans, survey notes and other relevant data.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to express ideas and concepts effectively, orally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Demonstrated skill in the use of computer with Civil 3D Design and AutoCAD, Geocortex, database, word-processing and spreadsheet software.

Weekly Hours: 36.67 

Salary Range: $69,429.12 to $76,545.84 CAD per annum (2023 rates)
